Massive Z`s sci-fi themed new single brings retro sounding 80s vibes and analogue synths, taking you on a trip through outer space and beyond. Exploring the expanding universe of digital sound, “Mission Control” propelles the listener towards as yet undiscovered dimensions of Synthwave music, combining pulsating basslines, solid drum beats, spacey synth pads and sampled historical recordings of early 60`s radio transmission to outer space.

After 3 years of silence, I'm back after perfecting my skills, with a sharper vision of where this project will go from now on.

It's a different chapter, that includes a lot of the experiences I lived in my personal life during the last years, some may find these new releases darker and more mature, but I hope that somehow they will express and convey a new emotional adventure, exploring the depths of our introspective journey.

This week's Disquiet Junto prompt challenged us to a duel with a metronome: record a piece of music that weaves in and out of a steady beat. 

I assembled a trio comprising the Moog Minitaur (lead and bass), Roland Juno (pads), and Waldorf Streichfett (strings). I improvised a meandering chord sequence and spent a lot of time mixing multiple layers of analog pads to bring it to life. Against the steady backdrop of a simple percussion pattern, I recorded the lead performance on the Minitaur. Since this synth doesn't sync to the MIDI clock on the computer, riding the LFO controls manually let me improvise the swirling/cycling/beating patterns that dance within, against, and without the beat. 

About the vocals: When I was listening to the mix earlier today, I heard a momentary audio artifact that sounded like a muffled voice. This inspired me to add a vague vocal part for way back in the mix, so recorded myself reading an excerpt from "A Vision of the Night" by Ambrose Bierce.

SCENES is my first Retrowave album, and a sort of "greatest hits" of all my artistic influences: movies, TV series, cartoons, videogames, everything is there. The massive use of synths and LINN Drum samples guarantees the 80s throwback, but my love for the electric guitar phrasing lead me towards some rock episodes, expecially in "Neon Blades". SCENES may have a Retrowave style, but I think this album is for everyone, and I hope you will find yourself in some of these micro scenes.
