So, what did you do today?  I created an entirely new music genre.  Hold your applause.  

I have loved ska since it introduced itself to me with the help of MTV and new wave/post-punk.  Watching The Specials, The (English) Beat, Madness...seeing the energy bouncing off those walls made want to dig deeper, beyond the 2 Tone scene of the late 70s early 80s.  I discovered Prince Buster and that opened up a whole world of music for me.  

However, I've found it hard to express my love of the form with my own music.  Believe me, I've tried.  It can be tricky for someone so connected to the four on the floor of house music--especially when you don't have the skills of a Stewart Copeland.  

I also wanted to acknowledge my own musical journey in the music--otherwise, I'm just a tourist...a dabbler.  All of my previous efforts felt...weak.  

So, last night, I thought--well, what if I didn't follow the parameters I associate with ska?  What if it isn't ska at all?  What if it was something else?  

"Feel the boom of the Zkatomic Bomb!"  

What if I made synthpop with the vibe of ska?  Could that be something? 

Yeah.  And I'm calling it Zka!  

Tapped Denzel E. for some vocals that makes it feel like one of those "Here's how to do this brand new dance" tracks.  (Are you qualified to learn one?  Yeah, that's what I thought.)  

I think this ends up being a fun and energetic track that is a better representation of my own madness in celebrating a music that I love and respect enough to not claim that I'm doing it...  No, no, no.  This is Zka!  

Have fun.  There are no rules.  

(Will I ever make another Zka song?  That depends...on you!  If you listen to this, like it, repost it, share it, comment on it, add it to a playlist...I would be foolish not to, right?  And the only way to know, for sure, if I do drop another Zka track is to follow this page.  True, you'll get a lot of non-Zka music too...but, that's kind of the whole point of Interbay, isn't it?)
