The Calm

This is the first movement of three miniatures that was performed during my time at the Lamont School of Music.  This piece was inspired by several water conservation art exhibits I viewed.  I wanted to write essentially the entire cycle of a river.  Its journey from the top of quiet mountain peaks, to the broad deltas when it reaches the ocean.  This movement is when the river is first born from glacial run off.  It is named after a small creek that runs down Mt. Evans in Colorado.

Tumbling

This piece was performed beautifully by the Playground Ensemble as a selection on the 2017 Colorado Composers Concert.  In Thousand Yard Stare I wanted to depict how war affects people on a more personal level, rather than from a grand scale.  I chose a poem from Wilfrid Wilson Gibson, and set the text to a Soprano solo. The text is shown below:

The Plains

Tyler Wigginton (b.1989) is a musician and composer with wide-ranging musical passions.  A native of Denver, he is an avid singer of a cappella music and is internationally recognized for his skill in the field.  He has co-founded multiple critically acclaimed groups and has competed at the international level, ranking as high as 13th in the world at the Barbershop International Singing Contest.  He is a regularly sought clinician for all things a cappella, and has worked to contribute to a strong youth movement in Denver.  He also works regularly as a session singer in the Denver Metro Area, and conducts the Boulder Timberliners Barbershop Chorus.

Tyler’s greatest musical passion is composition. His music has been performed across Colorado, Great Britain, and Germany.  His works have been performed by notable new music ensembles such as The NotaBene Chamber group and the Playground Ensemble. In 2016 he placed 2nd in the Joseph Dorfman International Composition Competition and in the same year he was selected for the Max Dijulio award for Composition.  He has been a featured composer on several Colorado composer concerts and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.

Tyler completed his B.A in Music Composition from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2017, and started a video game studio with a few passionate people in the Denver Metro Area so that he might pursue games further. He is currently pursuing his MA in Film Music from Berklee. When not musicking Tyler enjoys indulging in his love of fantasy novels, table-top role playing games, and Wikipedia binges.
