A tedious labor of love, made solely for the enjoyment of all until this glorious masterpiece is finally officially released (if ever). Using a sneakily recorded iPhone source secretly shared on the net by a fan a few years ago, EQ'd and touched up as best I could manage, with usable excerpts from the recent radio interview with Tony Visconti replaced in their proper order, as well as segments heard in the intros of the 'Five Years' and 'Last Five Years' documentaries. It's no secret that hardcore fans of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (and specifically fans of the 1973 Norman Jewison film adaptation) have long since taken issue with how, well, horrible the sound mix always seems to be on each release, both the soundtrack album and the actual film itself. Many have speculated that the original master tapes to undertake such a professional "remix" have been lost or destroyed. Thus began a new online project, for the fans BY the fans. The process for this new 2020 remix of the soundtrack has become possible, most of all, by way of an online tool called Voxiso which, more or less, successfully isolates vocal tracks from already-mixed songs. So with that step one completed, we next took to a direct rip from the 2017 French blu-ray release, specifically its "music and effects" audio track which most assuredly finally brought out the fantastic orchestra and arrangements that had been buried and practically unheard in various mixes for so long. I also made use of the "left" and "right" channels from the 1998 DVD 4.0 mix, and adjusted everything accordingly in Audacity. This is a long and arduous process, most definitely a labor of love, but I only hope my fellow 'Jesus Christ Superstar' fans will most definitely enjoy this new listening experience for this work we hold so dear...until the "official" thing, if ever, comes to fruition.
