In the days when the mountains of Armenia spoke with the voice of thunder and the rivers sang in ancient tongues, the fortress of Argishtikhinili stood as a beacon of resistance. Built with volcanic stone and the secrets of the gods, it guarded the eternal fire that kept the spirit of the earth alive.
David, born from an enchanted spring in Sasun, was the son of the mountain and the lightning. His strength was not merely physical: the flame of justice burned in his chest, and the reflection of his ancestors shone in his eyes. Raised by shepherds and wise men, he learned to speak with wolves, read the winds, and tame horses that obeyed only the spirits.
When the Arab invaders crossed the valleys with black swords and banners of shadow, David descended from the peaks like a comet. He fought not for glory, but for balance. Each blow of his was like the hammer of Vahagn, the god of war and fire. Legends say that his sword, Arevag, was forged with lightning and tempered in the tears of martyrs.
The battle for Argishtikhinili was more than war: it was ritual. The fortress walls resounded with magical chants, and the elders lit embers with sacred words. David, mounted on his winged steed, engaged the enemy general in a duel that lasted three days and three moons. At the end, with a roar that shook the cedars, David summoned eternal fire, which burst from the ground and enveloped the invaders in purifying light.
But David did not stay. Like the heroes of myth, he vanished into the snows, leaving a burning trail behind him. It is said that when Armenia is in danger, the fire of Argishtikhinili will burn again, and David will return with his lightning sword and his volcanic heart.
