Come Alive

Dancing in the Street Lights is the third song from my song cycle Audrey.

Right off the bat, this song will sound immediately more chippy than the previous two songs. I wanted to start the narrative in a certain musical tone that wasn't so dour, which gives me space to move into that sound further into the cycle. The Audrey theme is more morphed than the previous track as we move further into the project.

Lyrically the song is about infatuation of someone, not really love of someone. I think everyone can relate to the experience of feeling so smitten by someone without really knowing them.
Admittedly, the chorus of this song was completely written in a writing session (plucking around while watching Community). I had to find a compelling way to get into that chorus however. The biggest influence I had was Duran Duran's Save a Prayer. So I learned that song, and starting thinking how to use that form in my own song, with more of my personality thrown in. We I got was a song that shifts between a root's major and minor scales (verse/chorus, respectively). I think that effect was really effective in telling a harmonic story that blends without much IN YOUR FACE modulation. Idk, I'm stupid proud of this song, and I hope you love it as much as me.
