Before I start, I am aware that this man help produce my favorite album of all time (In Utero by: Nirvana.) That is not the only achievement I will be praising here because this man deserves an honorable tribute. Steve Albini was a unique musician who was gifted with the talent of producing, mixing and even writing music. Albini was in many bands, Big Black (a band that I paid tribute to by redrawing their album “Songs About Fucking”), Rapemen, and Run, (REDACTED) Run. But out of all of those bands, there was one that impacted my sound. Albini’s primary band Shellac is my favorite rock bands of all time in the “noise” genre. Their 1994 album, Action Park is (in my opinion) one of the best album of that year (My Black Ass, Songs for the Minerals, Pull The Cup, Dog & Pony Show). Then in the year 2000, the band released their magnum opus: 1000 Hurts (Prayer To God, Squirrel Song, Ghost, which ranks 13 in my top 20 favorite albums of all time. Both albums showcased Albini’s creativity and strength as a vocalist, guitarist, & songwriter. But what really impacted me was his career in production. When I started making my own music in my own room, I would always use Albini’s work as a producer for influence of sound during the mixing/mastering sessions. He created that raw sound that I craved for from a producer. I even have similar glasses to him. His work with Nirvana is beyond perfection in his career. But we cannot forget about his other works with the Pixies, Breeders, & Bush. But also, his work later in life with bands that are a great influence on me. Senium’s Such Progress is a prime example of an “artist like Nirvana”, Metz is an example of what Sub-Pop represents, and so many more. Finally, the main takeaway of this cover is that Albini’s music touched the lives of many people who appreciates Alternative Music and contributions to the alt culture will never be matched. Sleep Well, you fucking king.

“I first listened to this song when I was around 10 or 11 years old and all I cared about was just punk rock (Nirvana) and nü-metal (Korn). I had just learned about Alice In Chains as many sources (YouTube & Google) directed me to Facelift, Dirt, & Jar of Flies.  I listened to the song and I wondered: “why do people call this very depressing?” 

Years later, and this song is a force that keeps me from hurting myself as it comforts me with it’s dark blue atmosphere, folky-acoustic instrumentations, soothing harmony vocals, & lyrics that makes me feel accompanied rather than being secluded. If I had met Layne (Staley), I’d hugged him immediately without a word”
