Sunshine Is Gone

This song was made in October 2016. A month later, I decided to spice things up by asking my parents and sister to sing on it. 

Working with my sister was easier, as we've done it before a couple of times. She was going out that night, I said "hold on for a minute, wanna do this before you go ?", and that's how long it took.

Getting my parents to sing and record was the real challenge. My dad said "NO" before I even got the chance to end my sentence. I sulked for a while. When I asked my mom, she told me she'd do it, mainly to make me stop sulking I guess. In the end, I think she laughed much more than she sang. A week later, I asked my father again, he laughed and accepted to record. He still asked me for royalties though.

Also, at the very end of the song, I added the sound of my dog doing a body shake because he couldn't get the lyrics right no matter how hard we tried, but I didn't want him to feel left out.

im not really good at expressing my emotions, much less making my emotions into words that rhyme so song-writing is clearly not my strong suit
i think the general idea i was trying to get across is that sometimes you have to let people go but also sometimes being too selfless can hurt you too

From its delicate opening chord to its cacophonous finale, ‘Glory’ is a journey through the idea of connection. 

Far from its genesis in the serene farmlands of NSW, ‘Glory’ was developed by the band in their studio in Sydney, Australia. Enlisting the help of producer and recording engineer Jack Prest, Broken Mountain went into Studios 301 to record, shortly before the iconic studio complex moved premises. The ‘Glory’ session was one of the last recordings to be made in the legendary Studio A live room.

The band is comprised of Andrew Bruce (The Possé, Wallace, New Venusians, Okenyo, Sampa The Great, Ngaiire) on keys and vocals, drummer and producer Nicholas Meredith (E^ST,  Anatole, Dreller, Kcin, Fiction Writer, Jesse Redwing, Guineafowl), and bass and keys player Brendan Clark (Jesse Redwing, Fiction Writer, Oliver Thorpe, Air land and sea).

"I wrote ‘Glory’ after a trip to Bellingen in the winter,” says Bruce. “I was there with some friends and we drove to a place called the Promised Land, next to the Never Never River. The area is beautiful and has a special energy. It was there that I wrote the poem 'Glory' which formed the basis of the song as we know it today.”

“It's about reflecting on an innate connection towards nature. It's about pausing and immersing yourself in your environment." 

Broken Mountain are a subtle force. Despite each individual’s impressive talents the trio have formed an extremely rare, collaborative bond. Taken from the group’s debut release, ‘Glory’ is a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come. .
