A few years ago I bought a beat track from the talented K.Raydio with the intention of using it as a base for some sort of soundscape.  At the time, I did not have the tools or skills to record anything with it so it sat in my google drive for a while.  Recently I found it and used it as a foundation for this bilingual song, written in both English and Hebrew about building Olam Habah.  Hope you like it!

I began writing this song shortly after October 7 in response to witnessing the ongoing violence and turmoil in Israel-Palestine as well as the extremism, propaganda (of multiple kinds) and polarization that has proliferated since then.  Being a Jewish person in a moment like this, especially one who briefly lived there and still has loved ones on both "sides" out there has been...well, a trip.  To put it mildly.  And while I am in absolutely in no way the most victimized person in this scenario, especially as someone who currently lives in the US, I was (and to be real, still am) holding a lot of grief, fear, worry, anger, and other heavy, complicated feelings about what's been happening that didn't have anywhere to go.  So as I often do, I turned to songwriting because sometimes songs can express things in a way other mediums cannot.  I hope that hearing this song also gives you the permission to feel all of the heaviness and move through it, regardless of what "team" you're on.

In the meantime, aside from hoping you'll enjoy "The Same Old Song," I'd like you, yes you, the person reading this to do 1 thing.  Call your representatives and demand that they use their power to push for 1) a BI-LATERAL, SUSTAINABLE ceasefire between Hamas and the Israeli government to stop the mass bloodshed in Gaza AND 2) the immediate and safe return of my Israeli siblings who have been held hostage for the past almost 5 months.  It is imperative that you demand BOTH of these things EXPLICITLY at the same time.  Not one or the other, BOTH.  Bi-lateral, sustainable ceasefire now AND bring them home now!

Tzipporah (She/They) is a Minneapolis-based guitarist and singer-songwriter. She graduated from the music program at University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus in 2015.  After graduating she became involved with She Rock She Rock, a Minnesota based nonprofit focused on empowering women, trans, and nonbinary folks through the art of music.  She taught for three years as a part of She Rock She Rock’s Girls’ Rock and Roll Retreat summer program and served for three years as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.  Tzipporah currently works for Hopewell Music Cooperative North, a Minnesota non-profit dedicated to breaking down barriers in access to music education in North Minneapolis.  Tzipporah believes that music is a revolutionary force that can bring awareness to issues of injustice, promote understanding, and foster positive social change.  In addition to her involvement with She Rock She Rock and Hopewell Music Cooperative North, Tzipporah is an active performer around the Twin-Cities.  In 2019 her artistry and unique sound helped her advance to the semifinal round of Sun and Sky Entertainment’s “Celebration of Music” competition and talent search (at that time she had not yet reclaimed her Hebrew name and was performing under the name Wendy).  She currently teaches guitar, ukulele, and songwriting at El Diablo Amps and Guitars in Northeast Minneapolis.
