With his roots in ZX Spectrum demoscene of 90s and throughout the years, Megus has developed a remarkable style, combining multiple genres with a distinctive touch of chiptune elements.

The new concept album Yet Another Day is the evolution of this style and a tribute to Megus' musical influences. The album was written during COVID-19 lockdowns and represents a soundtrack for a day in the life of a person who doesn't leave their home.

I really wanted to hit a froggy vibe for my first STAFFcirc submission, so the central motif I built this track around is a variation of a coqui call that I created with my SoundCanvas. I also figured this was a good excuse to finally use my frog-shaped guiro, so I recorded some live guiro for the first time ever. Other live elements include some acoustic guitar and shaker that I recorded. Other than that there is plenty of rompler shenanigans.

There is also a sample of my dog Charlie barking, that's not frog-related but it felt very fun and percussive and brought a bit of a Rhythm Heaven energy to the track, a series that I adore. I hope you enjoy!

Since 2025 I'm making music almost exclusively while commuting to the office using portable hardware. I started with Dirtywave M8 and made "Uplink" — an album of ZX Spectrum music covers. I wanted to make music for ZX Spectrum but there was no portable tool for that. That's why I made ChipNomad. I want to dedicate the first track I made with it to SkyTrain — Vancouver rapid transit system.

Weekend Funk

Back in 2001 I got the idea to create a chiptune EP with tracks for each season. That same year I wrote "Summer Mood" and "Autumn is Calling" but then couldn't come up with good ideas for Winter and Spring tracks.

In 2004 I made the first sketch for Sayonara Winter but didn't finish it. A few years later I tried to turn it to a fully produced track with real shakuhachi and shamisen recordings. And again, I didn't finish it.

Finally, in 2026 I got the inspiration to finish it! It is my first track for two YM chips, it was a new territory for me. The melody in the middle of the track is a famous Japanese folk song "Itsuki no komoriuta".

I've already started writing the Spring track. When I finish it, I'm going to upgrade Summer Mood and Autumn is Calling to 2xYM versions, and then, 25 years after getting the idea, release this EP.
