After 4 years in the making finally a new chapter of RK's premier collection Let's BOOGALOO sees the light. This time legendary compiler Dean Rudland, who is responsible of dozens of wicked compilations on BGP, Kent and Blue Note, digs deep into - mythical NYC latin boogaloo producer - Bobby Marin's catalogue to bring you an explosive collection of (northern) soul, deep funk and latin jazz tunes from Spanish Harlem aka El Barrio. Bobby Marin has been one of the main contributors and a leading figure behind the latin Boogaloo movement in the mid 60s in New York producing and working close together with stars such us Joe Cuba, Eddie Palmieri, Machito, Riccardo Marrero, not to mention his own combo the legendary Latin Blues Band, recently sampled by DJ Premier as the hook to Christina Aguilera's 'Ain't No Other Man'. "

As Rudland reckons "Bobby is part of a crowd that have sometimes been overlooked because they weren't central to the Fania Records story, but the music they produced told a truer story of what was going on on the streets of New York than the internationalist world view that was propagated by that label's owner Jerry Massuci" So expect to find here the real stuff,an all killers no fillers selection of rare and impossible to find latin boogaloo singles from Bobby's vaults, including some previously unreleased tracks taken directly from master tapes such us Richie's Theme byRichie & the PS 54 Schooly. A bright sampler of the golden age of the one of the most Infectious music genre ever recorded. With Darondo’s sudden and unexpected passing last year, the world truly lost a singular and unique talent. “Didn’t I” was undoubtedly his most beloved and well-known song making the rounds in Soul collectors’ circles for some time and reaching a much wider audience with numerous placements on TV and movies including the iconic show “Breaking Bad.” Three producers from across the globe have paid him homage by adding their touches and flavor to the classic tune.

In light of the passing of the great luminary Gil Scott Heron, I have decided to give this one up to the world. 
This is my take on my favourite track from Gil's final album, I'm New Here( which is available to buy here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Here-Gil-Scott-Heron/dp/B002ZBT84G ) 
I made this rework as a companion to the original - which for me evoked classic blues, New Orleans flavours, voodoo and mortality. 
A few shady characters have this track on their hard drives already, and I've been playing it out to great acclaim.

Three years on from the release of Rhys Adams aka YesKing's 'Re-Record… Not Fade Away', we are delighted to live up to the album's title by presenting two previously unheard remixes of standout tracks 'Hardground' and 'Overproof'.
Featuring heart-stopping vocals by Mel Uye-Parker & Rioghnach Connolly, 'Hardground' was the album's lead single and it's easy to see why. Bittersweet, understated atmospheres call to mind vintage Massive Attack and Portishead, while Rhys's deft arrangement builds the track into a horn and drum-laden epic. Providing a vintage version in their own unique style, legends in their own bath-time Crazy P are first up on remix duties. Surely one of the best live acts on the planet right now, the UK outfit's rework is full of funky guitar licks, classic piano chords and live percussion, creating a disco-crossover anthem of sizeable proportions. Staying in the disco/house arena, engineer and producer O. De Lanzac turns in a silky-smooth version, with eerie chords underpinned by a rock-solid bassline, calling to mind the eclectic, soulful brilliance of her 2012 BBE debut ‘Uncut’. 
Displaying an affectionate tip-of-the-hat to 'Ghost Town' by The Specials, 'Overproof' is surely one of the best loved and most-played cuts on 'Re-Record… Not Fade Away'. DJ and edit maestro Sam Redmore raises the tempo a little whist somehow smoothing the track out at the same time, retaining the blissful dubbed-out vibe of the original version. Listen to Sam's subtle retouch of 'Overproof' and it's clear to see why the Birmingham native can count Craig Charles and Gilles Peterson among his ever-growing number of fans.

YesKing - Hardground (Original)

This song is the result of a spontaneous session which happened in February 2017 in Sofia/Bulgaria at the recording studio of Koka Mass Jazz.. Starting from scratch and adding instrument by instrument 'Back To Vienna' turned fast into a hommage to the Vienna School sound of the early 2000s.
All recordings were done in one afternoon and some arranging and post-production later in March.
