A little over a year I’m sharing with you the set I played at La Biennale Venezia x Sonic Acts. What a joy to play amongst the talented and sweet S280F, AYA, Soft Break, Yen Tech and emme. Not to forget the amazing space and light designs by Theresa Baumgartner & MFO.

What other stage to showcase a different approach to club music than this one. In this mix I share some absolute snufkin essentials, forged together with some eclectic and chaotic mixing, as you’ve come to know from me. 

It has been disheartening to see a rapid decline of space for non-commercial nightlife all around me and thus a space for artists whose work is so intrinsically connected with it. I hope we find ways to hold and create space for each other again soon.

EXCERPT from bod [包家巷] - Limpid Fear [清澈恐惧]

German  newcomer  Ausschuss  debuts  on  Haunter  Records  with  a  6-track  offering,  throwing  in  elements  from  the  whole  spectrum  of  contemporary  experimental  music.  The  subtle  yet  intense  melodic  work,  put  in  a  place  of  dangerous  acoustic  creatures  (bit-crushed  drones,  metallic  clangs,  slow  hard  beats),  allows  him  to  explore  both  negative  and  positive  affections.  The  main  goal  is  dominance—or  rather,  positive  acceptance—of  melancholia,  using  harsh  frequencies  as  a  crucible  for  one’s  psyche,  teaching  how  to  stand  amidst  the  noise,  breathing  it,  accepting  it  as  nutrition.  It’s  not  a  matter  of  riffing  against  listeners,  but  of  accompanying  them  through  different  rooms,  different  states,  and  molding  them  according  to  their  will  and  sensibility.  Ausschuss’  use  of  space,  reverb  and  harmony  gives  solidity  to  the  sound,  creating  a  proper  environment  in  which  insight  and  growth  can  happen  freely.

Mäss Vol. 1 is a selection of tracks by ten contemporary producers of electronic music who live across the world, from Argentina to Russia. A shared feature of their music is symbolic deconstruction and ornamentation of the club scene. The compilation is being released by Slovak label Mäss and mastering has been done by M.E.S.H. (Janus, PAN).

Mäss is a label and also a club night in Bratislava run by two producers - Adam Matej (DJ GÄP) and Jonatán Pastirčák (Isama Zing). They perceive electronic music as an important communication instrument, which doesn't intersect only through the geographically well-known club epicenters, but also through the rest of the world. Collaboration on the compilation was based on the connections made through social networks (Soundcloud, Instagram).

"It's not a matter of defining ourselves against the sound of Berlin or London, we are not a movement. We just want to share interesting underrated music that doesn't have enough exposure, because it's not coming from cultural centers."
