This particular three-episode arc of “Off the Beaten Track” is on polyamory, and to a lesser degree, general consensual non-monogamy. The aim of this arc is to diminish the silence and stigma surrounding polyamory, and to encourage its exploration on social, academic, and personal levels. It was created by Michelle Chan, in grateful collaboration with speakers Kaine, Kelly, Isabella, and Spike.

- Episode 1: Introduction to Polyamory

As the title implies, this episode is a short primer to polyamory. Kaine and Michelle discuss related terms like monogamish, polyfidelity, and even monogamy. Afterwards, Michelle takes us through some of the historical influences on contemporary Western polyamory, it’s current state in Canadian law, and its relevance as a social justice issue.

In this episode, Michelle speaks briefly on what BDSM can mean to different people, the pathologization of kink, and its stigma. Following this, Spike and Michelle have a conversation on how Spike’s polyamory and kink converges, and their thoughts on expression, community, and providing judgement-free care.

Do you have Adidas or Nike shoes? lululemon leggings? Or the latest iPhone? What about an Amazon Echo or Google home? Now how many ads do you see in a day – on your phone, on cars, buses, LRT’s, on TV or YouTube, the radio or in bathroom stalls. Now think about your use of social media, do you compare yourself? How do you feel when you see all the highlights of your friends’ lives posted online? Do you go out and buy food? Then throw away the plastic straws, bags, napkins, extra ketchup, and plastic utensils? 
 
Now how does style, stuff, social media, and food relate? 
 
This podcast focuses on the consumerist culture we live in where the ‘need’ to buy is skyrocketing. However, as responsible citizens, we must understand the difference between responsible consumption versus consumerism. 
 
So let me ask you a question; What is enough? Do you want more? Or could you have less?
