Has the wine run dry so soon?
I have barely tasted it;
Long before my tongue has quenched its thirst,
Has the wine run dry?

I have spent my final dime
On the thing I thought would last,
But as soon as I held it, it slipped away,
Now I'm still so dry.

I have climbed the highest peak;
Took me twenty years to train;
As I reached the top, I looked around and all I saw:
Vanity that's all.

I have probed the greatest minds,
I've believed in every cause,
But my heart won't hear philosophy or reasonings,
Left again dissatisfied.

Took me too, too long to see
That this world's all vanity;
I've been through too much to just pretend it's all okay;
Give me reality.

On my deepest, darkest night,
On my knees I cried aloud,
Someone came to me, he changed my death to eternal life,
Gave me meaning, reason to live.

I will call upon His name,

That's the name I love.

All this time it was just Him,

Psalm 2:12b says, "Blessed are all those who take refuge in Him." To take refuge in the Son equals to believe into the Son, Christ (John 3:16). Many of us probably have never considered that to believe into Christ is to take refuge in Him. We can see this with the type of Noah's ark. When all the people trusted, or believed in, that ark, they all entered into that ark, to take the ark as their refuge, protection, and hiding place. Today our Christ is our refuge, our protection. Jesus Lover of My Soul

This was written maybe 3 or 4 years ago, but I recently revisited it because I wasn't happy with the way the original one ended; I felt it didn't accurately capture the sentiment of the psalmist as he wrote " Let us therefore know, Let us pursue knowing Jehovah." There was a yearning and a wistfulness I was trying to capture which I couldn't successfully do, the first time.

Deep Within God's Heart

Deep within God's heart, a desire made known.
"It is not good for man to be alone
I will make him a helper as his counterpart."
To have a bride was His need and heart.

So God became a lowly man
Lived a life according to the Father's will
Wholly one with His heart and plan
Obedient to the Cross, His plan fulfilled

What life-releasing death!
Producing His Bride, the Church
What life-imparting resurrection!
A beautiful man in life and nature.

Christ loved the church
And gave Himself up for her
A love surpassing comprehend
Such mercy and grace to apprehend
