Earthly Measures are very excited to bring to you ‘Doroja’, an album by Santiago Córdoba & The Bauls of Bengal. Different to past releases, EM explores another part of the world, introducing you to the traditional sounds of Bengal & its talented musicians.

Doroja, is the third album by Argentinian musician Santiago Córdoba, this time in collaboration with The Bauls of Bengal. Recorded at the Hansadhwani Studio in Calcutta, India, where Santiago arrived with only a synthesiser, some effects, and a Legüero Bass Drum (an Argentine percussive instrument used mostly in local folklore) - this album was first conceived in December 2017 during a residency in this mythical city, together with The Bauls of Bengal.

The Bauls believe the body and mind are the sources of all truths and that the expression of freedom cannot be restrained by the labelling of genres or religions, something which is evidently expressed in their music. This provides the perfect foundations for this album to develop without limitations and too effortlessly flow to whichever realms both Santiago and the Bauls of Bengal wish to take us too.

The album combines traditional songs of the Bauls, rhythmic Jhumar instrumental improvisations with the Argentinian legüero bass drum, and other compositions created together in the studio. The result is a melodic mixture/dialogue of cultures, folklore and ancestral sounds with modern influences that help create an experimental and addictive sound full of electronic textures.

Participating in these first recordings: Arpita Chakraborty (vocals), Chandan Ray (dotara), Pijush Baul (Vocals, Dubki) and Tanmoy Pan (percussion), who later, are joined by other artists from different latitudes to achieve a captivating fusion: Matías Romero on strings (Formosa, Argentina), Guilherme Peluci from Mineiro on winds and Daniel Guedes on percussion (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Porteños Walter Broide on tabla and Cobra Rod on bass (both members of Poseidotica), and the Spanish Ángel Calvo on trumpet.

The album was mixed by Rodrigo Cursach at Delta Uno Estudio, mastered by Daniel Ovie, and the fascinating cover art is by Alejandro Sordi.

It will be released on vinyl by the UK based label Earthly Measures, in addition to being available on all digital platforms.

"Doroja" means portal, and this album is indeed a magical portal to music, song and dance. Santiago's only means of communication with Bengali colleagues functioned as an astral portal to build the sounds of this journey through strange and unfathomable landscapes that captivate and surprise by building bridges between different cultures of our planet.

Santiago Córdoba is a multi-instrumentalist musician born in the city of Buenos Aires who has been developing his unique sound both with his solo project and with prominent bands from the Argentinian independent music scene. He has been developing his solo career through deep musical and spiritual searching, with the infinite journey as a primary objective.

In recent years, he has lived in places such as Madrid, Beirut and Berlin and has released two albums: “Corso” (2015) and “En Other Places” (2019). The release of his new album entitled “Doroja” is imminent.

El Remolon reaches deep down into his bag of tricks for a global bass inspired journey through the jungle, calling on a cast of producers from around the world to remix his 5th studio album, Selva. 

On his 2014 album El Remolon took us on a journey through mystic Peruvian jungles and the Buenos Aires rat race, intent on connecting the listener with a cosmic cumbia visceral experience no matter the environment.  On it we heard Rhodes pianos, shamanic ritual chants and a whole lot of bass.  The record, heavy in collaborations, featured Buenos Aires hip hop/dancehall/cumbia starlet Miss Bolivia, Ali Gua Gua from the Kumbia Queers and the masked Dengue Dengue Dengue from Peru, to name a few.  This time around El Remolon calls on producers from all corners of the globe to give their signature touches to Selva.   

  Remixers from Australia, Belgium, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Spain and Germany lend their wares for a truly “global bass” affair.  The Ecuadorian Nicola Cruz, ZZK’s newest signee, ever so intricately strips down Lido Pimienta’s Vestido, whereas cumbia meets trap on Flashback from one of the rising producers of the Buenos Aires digital cumbia scene, Esmink.  Chancha Via Circuito lends his signature hypnotic drum patterns on Energia Natural and Barrio Lindo closes out the album with an introspective dream quest with Mariela Gerez’s Quechua lyrics floating in space on Poyeyu.

we met our primary psychedelic music guru, Goa Gil. 
As we enjoyed the sundown together, 
Gil reported about his former Germany excursions, 
especially about the amazing and inspirational energy 
emitted by the Taunus mountains. 
As chance would favor, we are residentially located near this area. 
So we found a suitable and magic place to transform this energy into something tangible. 
We have created a new piece of music, 
the turn of a page in the book, 
a new shade of light from our prism.

Llorona Records presents Canalón de Timbiquí – De mar y río remixes Vol. 1

Canalon de Timbiquí’s new record is the closest you can get to the powerful seductive deep Marimba de Chonta driven music coming from the pacific coast jungle of Colombia. Rough roots music that has been kept pure by geographical and social complex divisions in the country. Secret ancient sounds that keep inspiring producers that are feeding the original sound of Latin-American electronic music scene.  

The original recordings of De mar y río find new unexpected destinies in this fist volume of remixes. Uji, Cerrero, Dani Boom and Santiago Navas deliver a blend of roots and future in these four versions of Canalon de Timbiqui’s inspired parallel universes. The raw and mystical hypnotic music from Nidia Gongora´s ensemble is dissected and taken to the dance floor - sound system world inviting us to keep searching deeper in the ancient voices that are shaping the future sound of music. 

Uji, nomad traveller of South American ancient sounds, trance-inducing version holds wisely, slowly building up to burst into a futuristic salsa celebration. Uji is known for his elegant ritualistic production and his take on Canalon de Timbiqui´s anthem holds to his revered sound.

Cerrero is Diego Gómez, Llorona Records´s producer, solo project. Known for records such as Dub de gaita alongside dub legend Adrian Sherwood, Cerrero takes us to the mimalist ethereal dub side of Tio Guachupesito. The first part of the track works as an introduction for the unexpected hypnotic synth driven b section that holds Nidia Gongora´s breathtaking acapella.

Dani Boom, Colombian techno legend and Systema Solar mastermind, rework on Tio Guachupesito brings a tribal 90’s rave techno vibe that blends perfectly with the powerful roots percussion of the original version diluting boundaries in a dancefloor killer track. 

Santiago Navas, a young face in the Colombian electronic music scene, has already won a reputation as one of the cutting edge producers on a new generation that is striving for his place in the exciting Latin American music scene. Navas remix of La Casa de la compañía is his first appearance on Llorona Records, a beautiful rework on this 6 / 8 Juga that celebrates Timbiqui´s local never ending parties.

Ensemble inspired by Mediterranean musical heritage, with a repertoire in which we identify the Iberian and Eastern roots, but also the Jewish heritage.

UDJAT Ensemble released their first album “Udjat” in 2016, and the second “Ameretat” in the year 2017, with the special participation of the percussionist Hugo Tristão. The third album "Writings f an Ancient King" was released in 2021, with musc guest Jorge Cunha Machado (Precussions), the single "Gilgamesh Expedition" had the special participation of Pedro Jóia (Classic Guitar).
