A Playlist of Random Green Things I Meant for St. Patrick's Day but Forgot

I was working on something that requires Henry's theme and felt bad because Henry's theme is never quite completely played in season 4.  The bit of his theme we do hear is perhaps my favorite bit of music in the series, so I started pining to hear the full thing.  The arrangement we hear is different from the one in season 3, so I took what we do have and modified my old season 3 theme to fit.  This is what I think Henry's theme sounded like, as composed, in season 4.

Henry the Green Engine's Theme (Season 4--The Theme We Never Heard)

I'm really proud this one, but it took a long time to make.  When I saw how long the video was, I got excited.  When I watched the draft video, I got VERY excited.  Fantastic Mr. M did a marvelous job of editing the video and it gave me lots of room to work with!  At first I tried to write a whole new main theme, with absolutely no success.  After several attempts, I just decided to jump in and go for it, to great success!  This is some of my best work, I think.

Closing with the main theme.  This was the closest I got to achieving the ABACA format.  I had to throw in a bit of Henry's theme to pad it out.  I love the piano bit at the end!

Henry's theme never had a full reading since The Incident on Gordon's Hill, so I thought it would be good to close the journey with Henry's theme.  The theme grinds to a halt when Henry stops, then bursts out in celebration with the crowd!

It starts out with solo strings playing Henry's theme, then moves on to the main theme.  We get a little of Henry's Sad theme.  When Henry rallies, so does his theme!

I got to add the C theme.  The C theme was an absolute pain in the butt.  At one point in the theme, the harmony is a bit abstract, so it's difficult to pin down.

The Second Leg - 16. Henry's Hike (OST)

And here it is.  The theme that came so naturally except when I was actually looking for it.  It ended up being an ABACA format, but I was not able to get that particular line up to actually work.  This is just ABA format, with Henry's theme in there.  I love the Henry bits.  Also, this is my first time using marimba!  It sounds like Lion King toward the end there.

I love my theme layering here.  I put in both Edward's and the Skarloey Railway's themes, but the time signature is different, so they're a little hard to identify.

I started out small with a pulsing cello and a little spinny ditty thingy.  Then it's the Flying Kipper intro, more of the spinny ditty thing, and then a full up Henry Theme reading based on the season 3-4 version, closing with a little Henry based ditty as he passes through Welsworth.

Henry the Green Engine's Theme (Season 4--Minus Percussion)

Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, the episode this score goes with is yet unreleased, but I figured I could share it with you guys anyway!

This episode combines two very oposite characters: Percy and Diesel.  It was a lot of fun to try and mix the two polar opposite themes together!  I think I succeeded!  Enjoy!

Henry Takes The Express - 04. Triple Header (Remastered Original Soundtrack) (EBP)

I've done it again!  Triple header, I mean.  Hopefully you guys think its as good as last time!  I had a blast making this!

When JoeTrainBoy asked me to do Triple Header, I told him I would, on the condition that it would be completely new!  I don't think I want to do it again, as this was quite challenging at times.

Like the soundtrack I did for Edward's Branchline Productions, I wanted this to be different, not only from normal Thomas music, but from my own as well.  So, I composed the main theme in 9:8 time, which is something I had never done before.  It's based on John Powell's *Furies in Love,* from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which is one of my favorite pieces.  I hope you enjoy my send up to that!

The Forest - .03 Terence Gets Trapped (Original Soundtrack)

Haunted Henry is, in my opinion, an excellent ghost story, so I was very happy when JoeTrainBoy asked me to score his adaptation!  His version of the story is my favorite of the ones I've seen.  I think I did it justice!  Enjoy and Happy Halloween!

Chessie 614 was built in June 1948 and was retired in 1952.  In 1955, she was pulled out of retirement for heavy freight trains, but was retired just one year later and was placed on the so-called “scrap line” with several other Chesapeake and Ohio steam engines.  

In 1975, 614 was taken off the scrap line and was sent to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland for cosmetic restoration and static display.  In 1979, 614 was traded to a man named Ross  Rowland, who restored her to full steam over the next 18 months.  

In January and February of 1985, she hauled coal trains in West Virginia, as her fuel consumption costs were lower than most diesels at the time.  She ran excursion services until 2000.   

She was last serviced in 2006, and was moved to the C&O Heritage Center in Clifton Forge, Virginia in 2011.  Interest in operating her as a special excursion engine had waned by 2012 and the project was canceled in May that year.  Now, 614 sits on static display in Clifton Forge. 

The Northern Type steam locomotive was a triumph of American steam railroading.  First introduced in 1926, these beasts roamed the coastlines and mountain passes of the nation’s busiest routes until as late as 1963.

They were fast, strong, reliable, versatile, and were very popular with passengers.  The locomotives were characterized by their eight 80-inch diameter driving wheels and four supporting wheels on each end of the massive boiler. 

They were called by many names: “Greenbrier”, “Dixie”, “Niagara”, and “Potomac,” just to name a few, but their most common name was “Northern”, and so they are commonly known today.

Many were preserved after retirement and one even remains active on the locomotive roster of a Class I railroad to this day.  These engines are like ghosts of the rails.  Specters, haunting the line, crying out after a bygone era, the like of which had never been seen before, nor ever will be seen again.
