The wait for UFC 303 is finally over, and the event is set to take place this Saturday night (June 29) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

The Irishman, who has not fought in the UFC since a pair of defeats to Dustin Poirier in 2021, reportedly suffered an injury in the lead-up to his return, according to UFC president Dana White. Fans have not been left completely disappointed, though, as the new headliner fight will see Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira put his title on the line against No. 1 challenger Jiří Procházka in Las Vegas.

Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will go head-to-head in an unexpected rematch for the former’s UFC Light Heavyweight Championship crown when the pair meet as the new headliners of UFC 303 following the cancellation of Conor McGregor’s comeback bout with Michael Chandler.

The Notorious had been set to make his long-awaited return to the octagon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, later this month, but the Irishman has been unable to make the fight, forcing its postponement to a later date. This means that incumbent belt holder Pereira will face the man he saw off for the crown in the first place last November, when he defeated former champion Prochazka for the vacant title at UFC 295.

The original main event for UFC 303 was supposed to see Conor McGregor make his long-awaited return to the Octagon to face Michael Chandler. Following McGregor’s withdrawal from the fight due to a toe injury, Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira stepped in on short notice to defend his belt in a rematch with former titleholder Jiří Procházka.

The night’s co-main event was also put together on short notice and features top featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes competing at 155 lbs. “T-City” returned at UFC Mexico City in February and avenged a previous loss to Yair Rodriguez when he submitted the former interim champion in the third round, while Lopes enters the night riding the considerable momentum of a three-fight run of finishes.
