In early 2020, Leo McClusky and I were struggling to prevent the dissolution of a dream band we’d recently started with two friends. We didn't know it, but soon, whatever chance we had of succeeding would be ruined by the pandemic.

Sometime during that period, we started working on "The Cage" with Dennis Carter. The song was written in January of that year, so its theme of psychic and emotional isolation preceded any lockdown orders or social distancing. But between the unfolding of world events and the demise of the previous year’s valued musical relationship, we were steered toward a heavier, grittier mood and sound.

Right away, I knew “The Cage” was the start of something special. As so often happens, the ashes of one creative project helped to fertilize the soil of another. Suffering led to regeneration. And the new collaboration kept me sane and engaged through the hardest parts of the next few years.
