Yours, Mine, and Ours with Kush Groove

Detroit-based multidisciplinary artist and harpist Ahya Simone's May 19th performance with Boston Ujima Project.

Ahya Simone is an eclectically elusive siren and multidisciplinary artist from Detroit. As a harpist, composer, and filmmaker, she traverses the world of sound, moving image, and performance. Drawing inspiration from her favorite contemporary artists, she integrates R&B/soul, jazz, and experimental elements into her works and performances. These unique creations have allowed Ahya to collaborate with internationally renowned artists such as Brian Jackson, Saul Williams, Shigeto, Kelela, and Juliana Huxtable.

For Ujima Day 2024, we’ve created Any Day Now, an ambient poetry reading and meditative soundtrack featuring Ujima staff reading poems and excerpts from writers like Teju Cole, layered over sounds sourced from classic tape recordings.

Taking its name from a seminal essay by writer and Black Arts Movement architect Larry Neal, this recording invites us to slow down and reflect, blending thoughtful poetics with calming sounds to create a peaceful and grounding experience.
