This set is made up of my own unreleased music, and I think of it as an album.

In 2019, I released another album/set. https://soundcloud.com/robot-heart/jason-douglas-robot-heart-burning-man-2019. People have shared that it has been the soundtrack for deaths, births, first steps, ceremonies, and the beginning moments of every morning. 

This Dust is the follow-up, and I hope it lives as full of a life as the first one. As with many sophomore attempts, it was hard to push it out into the world.

It was written as a love letter to the burn during the insular months of the pandemic.  I was with my closest friends and family, traveling to a new town on the East Coast each month while writing this. I wrote until I tapped the well dry, something I didn’t know was possible. It turns out that making electronic music when there is nobody to play it for will eventually lead to writer’s block.

If you’re reading this, I discovered that your energy is more in my music than I realized. An “audience” doesn’t exist in electronic music in the traditional sense. Both the musician and the crowd are on equal footing. There is no social contract that you must listen politely to my set and clap.  You dance if it’s good. You listen if it’s good, and you are under no obligations if it’s not.  We both need to show up, or the thing doesn’t happen. It’s co-creation, and I learned that without the co-creators, my creativity has a limit.

It was a titanic effort to finish this, and an even harder one for me to release it. It was filled with obstacles and doubt. It contains my heartbreak, grief, sadness, and a hope for when I would see my way to the other side of that.

The ethereal, melodic, and at times, cinematic themes I’ve played with here and in my 2019 set feel explored. Something new is coming through that I have been experimenting with. I don’t have it yet, but I’m finding its edges. For now, I’m glad to have this out.

This Dust - Burning Man 2024

“A burst from a very special moment. It was a true pleasure to play my live set on the new Mayan Warrior mutant car, Galaxyer at sunrise on Saturday. You know, there are always stories behind moments like these; funny, bitter, exciting and interesting. But sometimes words aren’t necessary, in this case I’d like for the music to speak for me. 

Many of the songs in this set are taken from my upcoming album « In Mind » out in February on @dafnerecords. I can’t wait to share them with you.

Redux Spotlight 011 With Caymen

With decades of music collecting, Isaiah Martin combines a driving mix without boundaries of Deep House, Melodic, Tech and Progressive. He has the very unique ability to create a hybrid mix of fresh underground sound with influences of classics, combined with a distinct aptitude to read any crowd and absolutely rock the house. His trademark style has an inviting quality; never the same twice and always delivering driving, fluid mixes that make it really, really hard to stand still. 

Over the years, he has played opening sets for Prince, Moby, Aerosmith, Janet jackson, Sheila E, and Alanis Morisette among others. He has played sets for the official Grammy’s after party, for eight years he was resident DJ for Mtv’s big events, including all of their major award show afterparties. 
Heineken named him resident DJ in 2005 and he played Coachella for them 9 years in a row. 

A pioneering club DJ as well, Isaiah was a Spundae and Gods Kitchen resident for years in LA as well as headlined or supporting talent at virtually every major venue in NY, Miami, LA, SF,  and Vegas,  making up part of over a thousand club dates played worldwide. He is currently a resident at Sound in Los Angeles and Distrikt. 

Isaiah has also garnered major radio industry attention with his show Jet Set Radio which helped launch Evolution on Iheart radio preceding Pete Tong every Friday for 3 years and as a resident of #1 rated, Thump Radio, where for 6 years he could be heard on KBIG 104.3, Los Angeles’s largest radio station.
