Jimmy Edgars blossoming Ultramajic imprint gets off to a typically brazen start in 2014 with an EP of fiercely visceral club music from US-based producer Danny Daze.

A self-confessed lover of classic electro, the 3 tracks present contain the mechanical aesthetics and skewed sonics of the labels he holds close to heart, whilst packing an undeniable punch that will see these drawn for time and time again.

Released on 12” vinyl and digital, Daze is the first in a whole slew of acts to be welcomed onto the roster over the course of the year, and marks another exciting chapter for the burgeoning label.

London-based club night turned record label Sub Skank are set to kick off 2014 with a new EP from founding member Akito. The four-track ‘Metamessage’ EP will follow his debut ‘Unaquainted’ single from earlier last year and is set for release on 10th February.

Already picking up early DJ support from Ikonika, Brackles, Mr Beatnik and Last Japan amongst others, ‘Metamessage’ is the debut solo EP from 27 year-old beat-maker Akito Hearnshaw. Drawing on elements of Grime, House, UK Funky and Dancehall across its four tracks, the EP delivers a selection of fresh sound system testing club music.

The EP opens with the rugged title-track, ‘Metamessage’. Harnessing elements of all of Akito’s influences, it combines a sharp 4x4 drum pattern and stuttering percussive fills with a grimey square wave synth hook to create a powerhouse, peak time club production. The release also features an alternate mix of the track, which trades in the stomping 4x4 beat for a sparser, broken rhythm as it ups the tempo and increases the pressure.

Akito then delves deeper and darker on ‘Aqua Tryst’, the soundtrack to a recurring fantasy. Stripping back the melodies, he builds an impactful 8-bar arrangement which harnesses the energy of his early Grime influences, blending layers of tumbling percussion and drawn out waves of ambience into an incisive, industrial club cut. Switching things up again, the EP closes with ‘Bordello Bounce’, a lean and propulsive drum track which pairs its dancehall-tinged groove with heavy sub bass hits and a fog of white noise.

Love Higher (they/them/theirs) is a DJ, writer and organizer. Their influences are multi-genre to express a high energy & fun time whenever/wherever!  Additionally Love Higher is the co-founder of Verge.fm: an internet radio station based in Columbus OH and a member of Blessed Up Gang, a collective of Black DJs that aim to promote POC DJs in electronic music.
This mix, LOVE LANES, explores various soundscapes as I explore inner my emotions relating to love in all of its capacities! The mix introduces the spoken word poem, Fantasize by Floetry, to set the tone with the subject of the poem, fantasizing their imagined lover and all the things they want to do. From there, the mix sets into club/techno/ballroom and other genres to expand on the imaginged/fantasized expressions of love. The mix ends with a blend between Change of Plans by OSSX and How to Love by Lil Wayne, tying back to the original track in the mix, of the now subject, who is being described by the rapper, a person who is trying to learn ‘how to love’ still.  
So yeah, expect to dance, to sit and to (maybe) cry to this mix! I hope this mix reaches you in some way even if it’s just for a moment!”
