Collabs with Avatism & Eric Volta, support by tastemakers like Richie Hawtin, Cajmere and Solomun, every indication is that this is an artist set to explode this year. Having recently released his first track in years, Evangelion, on Guy Gerber's Rumors imprint, he makes his debut solo on his very own Tuskegee. Launching the label with The Martinez Brothers a year ago, CZ kicks off the fourth release for the label with atmospherics that make way for deep funk grooves that slowly build into a twisted, acid dancefloor stomper. Backed by the rolling Junkyard Tool, Seth's Just Back EP is out on vinyl from 27th April on and digitally from 18th May.

Subb-An has put his spin on the record but today we focus on Patrick Topping's edit and the Hot Creations bright spark has taken no prisoners this time round.

His edit is fiercer than the original and far techier. It's got mechanical bleeps, beautifully filtered sections and basslines so thick you'd need an axe to cut through them.

One half of Scottish duo Clouds, Perth Drug Legend tear off a solo EP of rugged, apocalyptic bloke-techno.

What more can be said about Clouds, young prodigies who have put out as much innovative techno in the past few years than anyone. The story takes a twist with a wealth of material being released by PDL, hot off a remix of Tiga’s Bugatti and releases on Resin and Westend Communications. The sound is reminiscent of Ghost Systems Rave, but there’s the feeling that things have gotten even more refined, something that smacks of a real subcultural movement. 

'Monzievaird' swings heavily around a few twinkling bleeps, sparse, chunky kicks that thunder through the greased hats. 

Freak genius at work.

After a lengthy hiatus, Tuskegee Music is back with a heavyweight release indeed: it features tracks written by Detroit heavyweights Seth Troxler—under his Young Seth alias— and cult FXHE boss Omar S. Amazingly they were written 11 years ago and have been long forgotten until recently being unearthed.
The first track here was inspired by a trip Seth made to Berlin’s Club Der Visionaere in 2005. “It basically was me returning to Detroit and telling Omar about this crazy music I heard Ricardo play during the day.” The result, ‘Deep’(CDV 2006 Mix), is a spine tingling atmospheric deep house track. The drums are lo-fi and loose, the bassline is a meandering thing that really sucks you in and soft, gentle toms tumble around the groove and encourage you to cut loose.
Then comes the experimental slow motion drum shuffle of ‘Detroit After Midnight’ which the pair made after “finding loads of weird records in his basement sampling them and making a classic MPC Detroit cut.” It has the sounds of people talking as if coming from the room next door laid over a lazy and undulating bassline, and is brilliantly weird and sketchy.
Last of all, Young Seth goes solo on ‘Luiza’s Inferno’ five minutes of him jamming on Omar’s MS20 with a warbling synth line coated in warm tape hiss and layers of dust. It’s a beatless piece that shows how inventive and ahead of his time Troxler was even as a young man.
This is a brilliantly unusual EP and another winner for Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers’ Tuskegee label.
