Music Is Love head honcho, Oli Furness, makes his own luck, delivering his label's 13th release in the Weather Underground EP.

Consisting of 3 irresistibly funky originals from Oli, plus a killer, break-driven remix from a little artist you may have heard of called Bodyjack, the EP is a certified party-starter, combining upbeat energy with lashings of groove. 

Weather Underground is set for release early November, but we've secured opener 'Crash Gordon' to keep you going until then. The track has a floaty, tropical vibe, but remains (under)grounded through a weighty kick and sharp, acidic edge.

Its been a busy year for Vin Sol. After inaugurating his own imprint ‘Club Lonely’ in May, he went on to release two more EP’s.  
Now the San Francisco native is back again with his debut EP on Ultramajic. 

Although this is the first release Vin Sol has put out through Ultramajic you can’t help but appreciate their synchronicity, both the label and Vin Sol have an uncompromising vision for their work. Ultramajic’s overarching aesthetic and dedication to cutting edge, energetic house and techno and Vin’s lively veneration of old school midwestern jack tracks sit perfectly together. 

‘Instinct’ is a straightforward introduction to the EP, bleeps and a pounding kick drum carry the track to a frenzied finale. ‘1314’ ushers in a darker atmosphere, born out of a combination of simple elements Vin manages to twist and build a unique energy. In ‘Can’t Cope’ Vin utilizes a complex drum pattern to drive the track forward, never losing the momentum of the dance floor. Longtime friend Matrixxman steps up for a remix of the title track. Taking things back to basics Matrixxman strips it back for a pitched down minimal intro before reintroducing the bleeps and cymbals. Lastly, digital bonus ‘DTLW’ is a classic jacking beat, Vin plays with a vocal sample of ‘Work’ rounding out the EP to an infectious crescendo.

@freddie-norwood rounds off the four-track EP with "Parallel To The Sky", a continuation of the stripped back, broken beat approach. He slowly builds musical blocks bringing in more and more melodic hooks before affirming his dreamy canvas with a welcomed bassline that swims around the vocal sample before the final drum rolls bring the EP to a close.

'Riff Shapes' is our pick of the two cuts included on the EP and it's a glitzy, heavy-hitting weapon designed to get people moving and smiling in equal measures. 

It's a lot of fun and another example of how Spencer thrives with so many different sounds and styles. We're counting down the raves until we hear this injection of serotonin on a powerful soundsystem.

INFO: Switch on for BETON, the enigmatic Belgian artist who emerged in 2017 on the likes of Pets, Turbo and !K7 before disappearing back into the studio shadows… Until now.

His first new material since late 2018, BETON is back on the Catz ‘n Dogz mother label with two all-out breakbeat rave bombs: ‘Dockside’ nods back to the hardcore era with its pure sparsity and drum insistence. Characterised by its low rumbling subs, there’s a distinct 2 Bad Mice flavour deep in the mix here as the Pets murker rolls his sleeves up and joins the darkest dots between the early 90s and now.

‘Transmodal’ continues the breakbeat pressure but does so with a much more evangelistic synth-struck twang. Full-flavoured euphoria with just a touch of trance in the mix; the upwardly cascading arpeggios hit with cathedral-level prowess.

Good, clean, wholesome, timeless breakbeat fun. BETON takes us back to simpler times while reminding us these strange days won’t last forever… Amen to that!

Alongside the announcement, tickets for ABSOLUTE.’s headline show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Saturday 19th June are on sale now.

Wonderland is a whirlwind ride through dance music as heard through ABSOLUTE.’s ears: emotive house, hard-edged techno, divine disco, and euphoric rave bring the party, while more cerebral downtempo and textural ambient tracks wind things down. It’s party music for a time without parties, all shot through with McGinley’s message of hope and equality for all.  
 
Speaking on the Mixtape, ABSOLUTE. explains: “Writing this album brought me back to life, I was writing music that helped me feel certain ways, freedom and connectedness to something I and many others were missing, longing hard to be around people, or needing a dose of raw euphoric rave energy which gave some release at the sheer desperation to dance and feel joy. Even if just for a short time, to feel transported to 90’s UK raves or New York’s underground gave me some life, and I hope it does for you too. Welcome to Wonderland…” 
 
The mixtape album came to fruition as a result of the recent lockdown where ABSOLUTE., and the rest of the world, was forced to a standstill. Anthony was determined to turn his frustration into art and participated in a creative workshop that helped open his mind to new ideas, taking his music in exciting directions. The title of the mixtape takes its name from Wonderland Arena, a now obsolete rave space in East London that played host to live performances from the likes of Frankie Knuckles, The Prodigy, and Carl Cox during the halcyon days of acid house and early rave, and that is now converted into apartments where Anthony currently lives and works. 
 
ABSOLUTE. Is a project that has steadily gained momentum over the last couple of years, deftly choosing the right path for long term success rather than quick gains. Coming from the vibrant LGBTQ+ club and rave space where he promoted influential events in London, Anthony wanted to make sure foundations were solid before making the break into the live arena with this incredible body of work. He’s DJed at a wide array of parties and festivals from Glastonbury and Creamfields to Fabric and Razzmatazz but performing live has always been the goal. As lockdown came into effect he was packing his equipment to go on the road supporting dance legends 808 State on a 10 date UK tour.  
 
Despite a total shutdown of the live sector during the pandemic, Anthony still managed to perform his debut live set for Radio 1’s virtual Ibiza weekend during the summer and has just announced a headline live show at Islington’s assembly for March next year in partnership with underground gatekeepers Percolate. 
 
Alongside his musical accomplishments, Anthony is a passionate activist for human rights and has a longstanding track record of work supporting issues including climate, race, and LGBTQ+ justice. After attending the first Extinction Rebellion action in London, McGinley wrote “Rave Against the Machine”, a track that sampled a speech by Greta Thunberg which resulted in XR later inviting him to programme the music line-up of their International Rebellion at Trafalgar Square, while at Glastonbury, he played at Greenpeace’s Rave Tree.
