From the very beginning UM has longed to be a vinyl-kinda-label, and after 3 years of work the day has finally come! I’m delighted to unveil the first UM Records 12” - the start of a new irregular series of vinyl only releases, continuing our ethos of quality deep house music from the finest producers. The debut slice of vinyl features a hand picked crop of familiar names to deep house lovers. 

Opening with one of the hottest collaborations right now, BiG AL and Rishi K. featuring Blankita, Damelo is a twisted blend of moody bassline and funky grooves that just has that essential UM sound - bright, moody and that all important need to move to the beat as standard. Marc Cotterell featuring Doreen Younglove sees Cotterell in a harder groove than many of his releases, graced by the vocals of Younglove the track builds with a euphoric mood and glorious piano keys. On the flip side BiG AL goes it alone with the big n bouncy Pero Tu Nu Sabe with its flickering Spanish heart and sultry vocals. Wrapping up the 12” is Deep Active Sound with another strutting affair. Classic Deep Active Sound grooves with the deeper dance floors on it’s mind.

2   Jamo and Andy George "Remember" I was  Going through a few old Promos I had last year and came across this  taken from MODA BLACK VOL. II Sampler Featuring tracks from Huxley, Danny Daze, Maxxi Sound system, Jaymo & Andy George, Hot Since 82, Habischman. And it’s a gem i missed out on went straight of Hot since 82 .I think it was called leave me. But what a cracking tune.

3     Roots Are Deep   Original Mix       Artists Jay West   out on Collected Works 5 track EP With artists like ....Moonwalk,  EdOne, Bodden, Trash You, Claus Casper,  That track by Jay West is no 5 on the release and is one of my Favorites. Out on OFF Recordings.

Florida based Phasen returns to UM Records after a hugely impressive remix of Greenfish in 2014. The EP reprises several releases that featured on the now defunct 5 and Dime Recordings along with a brand new rework of the title track Digital Block. The EP sees the long awaited return of Karol XVII & MB Valence and the highly rated Loz Goddard (Large Music, Open Bar) making his first appearance on the label. The EP opens with Digital Block (Phasen 2015 Remix) and a sound that perfectly reflects Phasen’s characteristic slant on electronic deepness. Throbbing and techy, weaving and wandering in glorious style. The Karol XVII & MB Valence Loco Remix of Off The Cuff, by Phasen and sometime production partner Refurb is a pure dancefloor tune that’s brimming with energy and menace - a must for the darker moments of sets. UM (untitledmusic - named so because that was what the default folder we created on our work computer was called) began life in 1996, with two aspiring DJ's trying to blag their way onto promo lists. A printed fanzine made in the dead of night when our employer wasn't looking spread far and wide across the UK's finest vinyl record stores with a little help of some of the seminal deep house labels and people. Over the following years it grew from print to new music podcasts, to websites, to social media and gave birth in 2011 to UM Records.

 

The aim was to build a label synonymous with up and coming producers, a springboard for talent to go onto bigger labels and great success around the world supported by a community of like minded deep house fans.

Since 2016 the label has operated on a not for profit basis - reflecting the tough nature of music business today. Allowing the UM Records to be uniquely focused on creativity and music, not profit. Across digital and vinyl platforms UM’s sound is ever evolving, always emotive, often challenging and a name you can trust to bring you the very best of deep house.
