I have a new single out today, Elcohir. It’s a blessing to share it with you, along with two wonderful new remixes by Lauren Bousfield and Dalhaus. I hope you all enjoy it very much. It will be followed by an EP, Shadow Puppets, on June 26th, with a party shortly afterward.

I struggled for a long time with releasing this record, but it’s sat for two long buried in my drive, taking up space in my dj sets. It’s hard to honor work you made while struggling. The winter I made this in was immediately following one of the most difficult periods of my adult life. I was constantly oscillating between angry and afraid, taking refuge in narcissistic delusion, and projection. Can I really call it my best work?

In the last few months I’ve been taken with the image of a river dredger. I’m constantly pumping mountains of rotted gunk out of myself, trying to find the woman who’s been living submerged in it. This record is all gunk.

Recently I had to admit to myself I wasn’t living authentically - I wasn’t feeling much of anything. I wanted to be a machine so badly. I’d have done anything to make a record without having to rely on my own intuition. I think this record wants to be a machine and an institution. It wants to make you move with scientific precision, but it can’t compromise on an underlying grandiosity. There’s a tension in that - between function and expression, Id and superego. It wants to be the biggest thing in the room I think, but simultaneously compact enough to work in the club, to play nice with the other songs. I don’t stand by this quality. I don’t think I stand by “the club,” anymore.

I thought about calling this record “Lotus Eating.” Escapism is a constant theme for me. I’m the least dissociated I’ve ever been - I think there came a moment where I knew if I didn’t change I would die, or stay dead. I’m only really in the baby steps now.
