Luke (AKA High Sobriety) has a passion for music that shines through in his commitment to the community. Luke’s work in Edmonton, Canada with Rhizome (FKA Mahsi Fellowship) has become a collaborative grassroots movement focused on creating immersive electronic music experiences, which have sold out at nearly every event for the past several years. Trained classically on the piano from a young age, SEPHYR started composing his own music in 2014, using local electronic shows as inspiration for building his sound. “Under trees and over mountains. Those are the places I want to be reflected in my music.” Patrick Cunningham began the Woadus project with the vision of bringing a natural element to the world of electronic music. Drawing inspiration from folk and world music of all cultures, Woadus evokes a style committed to reconnecting with the earth through music. Channeling the beauty, the power, the provision, and the indifference of our planet and giving it a sound.

Woadus will often venture out into nature to collect audio recordings for his music. “All through history, events of cultural and spiritual importance have taken place out in the wilderness. Deep in a forest, atop the peaks of mountains, on the coast of oceans. There is a power in these places that I try to capture.”

Paryonsi (Nick) is a diverse and experienced DJ/Producer hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Originally from Newfoundland, Nick moved to Edmonton at a young age. With a strong fascination for music he quickly picked up a guitar and found himself playing in numerous progressive metal projects. More than a decade and a half later, Nick’s broad taste in music settled into the depths of the underground bass spectrum under the moniker “ThrdWrld” (est. 2014). After providing direct support for a dynamic range of acts such as Chimpo, Fixate, Khiva and Scratcha DVA, Nick took a brief hiatus and returned to the scene under the name Paryonsi, playing the same deep and soulful selections with a more varied tempo range. His signature blend of rhythms - reminiscent of hip hop, jazz, and the driving forces of progressive metal - always strives to stay on top of the freshest sounds in 140 while still paying homage to the roots that forged him.

Justin McKinney (JT) is an upcoming Drum and Bass DJ, Artist and Producer based out of Edmonton, AB, Canada. JT grew up in the small town of Niton Junction, AB, Canada and moved to the big city 16 years ago. KR DUB

Kyle (KR Dub) is a DJ/Producer based out of Calgary, Canada. He is one of Calgary’s most passionate connoisseurs of Bass Music and Soundsystem culture. For the past several years he has been slowly gaining ground within the Western Canadian bass music scene, and the aspiring artist isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Having gained experience in the scene working with Supreme Hustle & Noctilux Collective, he has had anything but modest beginnings. Initially, his penchant for the deep, low end, technical side of drum and bass, coupled with his rapid absorption of the mechanics of mixing, resulted in some stellar initial mix-tapes which garnered immediate attention. His first live set was opening for none other than DNB legend S.P.Y. Since that high-profile debut, he has continued to build steam, improving daily & constantly building on his diverse and expansive music library. This has resulted in a number of bookings over the past couple of years, where he's been able to lend his skills behind the decks to opening slots for artists from a variety of different genres, including Rusko, Fracture, Shades, IvyLab, Chimpo, Dub Phizix & Strategy, Zeke Beats, Truth, Biome and many more. He has also taken his skills beyond our city’s borders, playing in Edmonton with the Future Roots, YEGDNB and Umbral Sound System crews, as well as at a number of festivals including Forest Awakening, Wattage in the Cottage, Hard West and Borealis Music Festival. With the level of professionalism and expertise he brings to the stage, coupled with the traction he’s been making with his own productions, it looks like the future is bright for one of Calgary’s most entertaining sound boys. Idle Worship is the moniker of Nathan Panousis, a multi-disciplinary artist from Edmonton, Alberta. For close to a decade, Benoit Guimond (current alias Angel Science) has performed at music festivals, DIY venues and clubs across Western Canada. Passage, better known in the community as Whitney, is an emerging DJ and producer from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her selections evoke emotion with a fluid and commanding soundscape. Playing with any iteration of bass and breaks - not limited to dubstep, grime, drum & bass, garage and dancehall - Passage always provides a distinct array of strange and beautiful sounds.

Surrounded by music and dance throughout her life, Whitney is a creator consistently expanding her horizons - giving her the ear and the edge apparent in her diverse sets. Some notable performances include playing at The Womp (after winning their 2023 DJ contest) and Electric Sky Festival (SK), and opening for taste-makers like: Truth, Hypho, The Librarian and Joe Nice. Currently, she is continuing her journey of production that began at NVMA Studio, and is an ever-growing element of Umbral Sound System - including the host and curator of Umbral’s monthly mix series on Sub FM.

Mother Mary (she/they) is Alex Naylor, a second-generation settler living on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (currently-named Vancouver, BC).

She brings together elements of UK bass, breaks, emotionally-charged techno, and dark 2-step, always with one eye on the dance floor.

When not in the rave, you can find her planning immersive audiovisual dance experiences with the Radiate crew. In the daytime hours she works in mental health and addictions as a clinician.

WTFIW is Zac Newman, an Edmonton-based DJ who has been perfecting his craft for five years, performing locally and abroad. CERDIN

Cerdin’s music is heavily influenced by a mix of organic and over-processed sounds, bringing a dark, rave and industrial inspired edge to the EDM formula. Cerdin has garnered co-signs and support from the likes of Baauer, What So Not, Alison Wonderland, and Sable Valley founder, RL Grime, in which Cerdin released with in 2023. After nearly a decade of cultivating his skill set in music, Cerdin has crafted what on-lookers have called an “ominous intensity and undeniable energy”. 

This mix for Umbral flows through different inspiration points of some of my upcoming works, with a few IDs sprinkled throughout. Some songs from friends and artists I admire. A colder, deeper sound for the winter months. I hope you enjoy, and endless shout to the Umbral sound crew ❤️

Episode 29 of Umbral Sound System's monthly mix series on sub.fm - this is a special 2 hour extended set from bossman Triggs, featuring a journey deep through the realms of 130-140 breaks and bass.

TRIGGS

Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Kelly Spriggs (aka Triggs) is a beacon in the prairie bass music scene. Having DJ’d for over a decade, he’s earned his place as a distinct figure in Edmonton and beyond through his quick mixing, risky blending and flawless set curation. Often dancing across 4 decks, you’ll recognize tunes being played but with a unique twist. Roots Dubstep is often the backbone of a Triggs set, while also incorporating everything from breaks and tech to halftime and jungle.

Beyond the decks, Kelly is a founding member and primary builder of the Umbral Sound System. His impeccable ear for sound makes him a sought after audio tech across Western Canada and can be found behind the controls of local venues not limited to 9910 and The Common, and festival stages like The Amp at Shambhala and Slowtempo at Bass Coast. Rounding out his roles, you can also find him teaching the art of DJing at NVMA Studio. Needless to say, Triggs is a powerhouse in every sense of the word - you can always find him working on a project or planning an event in order to best showcase the community that helped him grow.

Hailing from Kelowna B.C. Canada, Dylan Krucial Heinrichs, better known as Krucial, has been DJing and advocating bass music in Western Canada for well over a decade. Krucial is the head of Infinite Sounds and has been an event organizer and talent buyer since back in 2012 where they started throwing shows in his hometown of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Dylan and his two business partners are the owners of Nocturne Sound System; housing the first Hennessey Sound Design rig in Canada! Krucial is known for his quick blends and finger drumming while rinsing the freshest in 140 sounds, Garage and Jungle. Big underground UK vibes on tap. All the years of hard work have gotten Krucial on stage with the likes of Joe Nice, Tsuruda, Truth and many others. Always pushing the boundaries and never setting limits, Krucial is a force to be reckoned with!

Alex Jensen aka Sorsari has been producing and DJing for over a decade, and has been able to create a foundation for himself within the underground bass music scene.   Releasing on notable labels such as Terrorhythm, ProgRAM, Sable Valley and Vision, you can expect to hear a blend of styles that range from slow and hypnotizing instrumentals, to faster paced palettes of dubstep, grime and footwork.  He has had a historical impact within the genre of wave, but has also proved to be a multi-faceted producer and DJ within the different genres of electronic music with a core focus on modern sound system culture.  Sorsari provokes the deeper emotions we can feel when we listen to music together with encouragement.

PUPPYCAT

How innocent and unassuming, they all thought, the sonic union of Howl and MisfortuneCat. No one suspected the chaos their combined artillery would bring. That the incessant battering of bombs dropped at 140 bpm would rip apart the fabric of spacetime; and on the other side of that portal, PuppyCat emerged from the wreckage. In this timeline all bets are off. Nobody is safe. 

Since 2020 PuppyCat has been combing through the aftermath, stockpiling tracks, collecting dubs, and levelling the dance at festivals like Shambhala, Wicked Woods, Altitude, Heartburn and Neon Jungle. PuppyCat is a cornerstone of Portal Crew Productions and they have ambitious plans in the works. Coming off of a massive summer they are embracing the cold and rolling heavy into a winter run of shows. Bring your gunfingers - they’ll provide the ammo.

Since then, SEPHYR has provided DJ sets at Future Forest (NB), Electric Sky (SK) and Neon Jungle (AB), as well as radio sets on What Will The Neighbours Think, The Lighthouse, AAJA and Sub FM.
    
SEPHYR provides a steady stream of self-releases with two EP’s and numerous singles this past summer & continues to develop his sound with the goal to create anthemic tracks made to transport the listener to the wide open spaces of our world 🌬
