“Under trees and over mountains. Those are the places I want to be reflected in my music.” Patrick Cunningham began the Woadus project with the vision of bringing a natural element to the world of electronic music. Drawing inspiration from folk and world music of all cultures, Woadus evokes a style committed to reconnecting with the earth through music. Channeling the beauty, the power, the provision, and the indifference of our planet and giving it a sound.

Woadus will often venture out into nature to collect audio recordings for his music. “All through history, events of cultural and spiritual importance have taken place out in the wilderness. Deep in a forest, atop the peaks of mountains, on the coast of oceans. There is a power in these places that I try to capture.”

Canadian-based Heymac continues to demonstrate the serene beauty that can be found within the Drum and Bass genre. Following his release on the ProgRAM 100: Software compilation he has released numerous songs with his signature driving drums and ethereal soundscapes with labels like 170+ Recordings, Bay 6 Recordings and Headsbass as well as his own self-releases such as his song Hamartia. Heymac continues to show the importance of melody and appreciating the moment in his songs and performances. In 2022, Heymac braved the cold to do a one-of-a-kind DJ set on a dog sled with the Rocky Mountains as his backdrop, which firmly presented his approach to atmosphere and art within Drum and Bass. As a DJ, Heymac has supported artists like Bensley, Rene Lavice, Pola & Bryson, Spectrasoul and many more.

Mother Mary (she/they) is Alex Naylor, a second-generation settler living on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples (currently-named Vancouver, BC).

How innocent and unassuming, they all thought, the sonic union of Howl and MisfortuneCat. No one suspected the chaos their combined artillery would bring. That the incessant battering of bombs dropped at 140 bpm would rip apart the fabric of spacetime; and on the other side of that portal, PuppyCat emerged from the wreckage. In this timeline all bets are off. Nobody is safe. 

Since 2020 PuppyCat has been combing through the aftermath, stockpiling tracks, collecting dubs, and levelling the dance at festivals like Shambhala, Wicked Woods, Altitude, Heartburn and Neon Jungle. PuppyCat is a cornerstone of Portal Crew Productions and they have ambitious plans in the works. NUMZ is Chicanx DJ based in Saskatoon after emigrating from the US. Deriving inspiration from the hottest trap hip hop to the dirtiest dubstep dubs, they combine these genres to bring forth their unique sets. Having played across Saskatchewan and the west coast of the US, they have a distinct underground style that evokes riotous “twerk pits”. In these “twerk pits” a safe space is created for all to come and twerk out the trauma. Paryonsi (Nick) is a diverse and experienced DJ/Producer hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Originally from Newfoundland, Nick moved to Edmonton at a young age. With a strong fascination for music he quickly picked up a guitar and found himself playing in numerous progressive metal projects. More than a decade and a half later, Nick’s broad taste in music settled into the depths of the underground bass spectrum under the moniker “ThrdWrld” (est. 2014). After providing direct support for a dynamic range of acts such as Chimpo, Fixate, Khiva and Scratcha DVA, Nick took a brief hiatus and returned to the scene under the name Paryonsi, playing the same deep and soulful selections with a more varied tempo range. Verdant is the brainchild from Carter Hordyski, previously known under the moniker Giant Ibis. Verdant was created to open more doors sonically, rather than focusing on wave music to include more genres. You can expect to hear a blend of his slower and quicker productions, inspired by the melodic wave sound as well as electro, breaks/bass, techno and anything in between.

Canadian based Heymac is a melodic Drum & Bass artist whose music focused on orchestral instruments combined with driving synths that have made him a rising artist in drum and bass. 

With releases on RAM Records, Galacy & Interstellar Audio, Heymac has garnered radio support from The Hospital Records Podcast, Keeno, Ledge Sounds and has supported artists such as Pola & Bryson, Etherwood, Degs and more. 

Heymac has performed at many festivals in Alberta such as Downtown Defrost, Scream, Friendzy Fest and more and ventured out to Banff to perform a once in a lifetime dogsled set through the mountains. He is also one of the founders of Umbral Sound System, an event company which curates shows alongside their handbuilt custom sound system and launched his own soulful drum and bass event called Sol.

Selectress is one of Edmonton’s fastest rising DJs. After attending Shambhala Music Festival in 2011, Selectress knew her place was behind the decks. Her sound is unmistakable. Known for sharp technical ability and commanding stage presence, she has also proven herself in competitive settings, taking down battle royales within Alberta’s drum & bass scene. Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Kelly Spriggs is a beacon in the prairie Bass Music scene. Having DJ’d for over a decade, he’s earned his place as a recognizable name in Edmonton and beyond through his quick mixing and risky blending. Often dancing across 4 decks, you may recognize tunes being played but with a unique twist to them. Roots Dubstep is the backbone of his sets while also incorporating everything from breaks and tech to halftime and jungle. 

Beyond the decks, Kelly is a founding member and builder of the Umbral Sound System - a community-focused events company with custom speakers that has recently hosted the likes of Distinct Motive and The Librarian. Kelly can also be found behind the controls of venues like 9910 and Double Dragon (among many others) and festival stages like The Amphitheatre at Shambhala and Slay Bay at Bass Coast.

Alex Jensen aka Sorsari has been producing and DJing for over a decade and has been able to create a foundation for himself within the underground bass music scene.   Releasing on notable labels such as Terrorhythm, ProgRAM, Sable Valley and VISION, you can expect to hear a blend of styles that range from slow and hypnotizing instrumentals that can transform into a pace of tempos that blend with dubstep, grime and footwork.  He has had a historical impact within the genre of wave with his Worlds Away EP that debuted on Terrorhythm in 2016 and has also proven to be a multi-faceted producer and DJ within several genres of electronic music over the years.

Captivate
(Second Half)

Captivate is a producer and DJ based on the ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. His music pushes bass-forward sounds with deep roots in the past, drawing from 90s UK rave music, Jamaican soundsystem culture, leftfield techno & ambient music. Unbound by genre, his DJ sets shapeshift between styles and tempos, instead focusing on mood, narrative and rhythmic exploration. He has shared his craft at renowned festivals such as Bass Coast and Shambhala, and his music has garnered strong support from many of his influences, including Om Unit, J:Kenzo and Doctor Jeep.

Passage

Passage (better known in the community as Whitney Caine) is an established DJ and producer from Edmonton, Canada. Making connections on the decks as much as she does on the dance floor, her sound creates balance with paradox - sustained by a foundation of deep bass and rolling breaks.

Whitney is an ever-growing representative of the Umbral Sound System crew, including the host and curator of Umbral’s monthly show on Sub FM. As creator of the Unspoken downtempo event series, her contributions to the scene reverberate throughout the city and beyond.

Having performed at Bass Coast, Electric Sky and The Womp music festivals and provided support for acts like The Librarian, Joe Nice and The Glitch Mob, Passage is poised to captivate a variety of audiences with her unmistakable energy. As diverse as she is cohesive, Passage juxtaposes grimey and ethereal elements, her underground tastes infused with a pop sensibility all her own.
