Techno set

When I came to London last year to join fabric and head the A&R for the artist led label Houndstooth I got dragged down to Hackney Wick for what was going to be a life changing techno event of the rawest level. This happening is what has inspired my series of Warehouse Sessions, where I have reached out to my favourite techno artists and asked them to get inspired by that unique thump thump betwixt concrete sounds that industrialised techno spaces always provoke and provide a suitably banging mix for my Electronic Explorations podcast series.

This week I've kicked off another round of mixes lead by Our Circula Sound man Sigha, London resident Ø [Phase], Semantica Records boss and Spanish producer Svreca, Italian producer and co-owner of Repitch Records Shapednoise (One half of Violetshaped) and finally a US producer who has released on Sandwell District & Stroboscopic Artefacts, Rrose.

December 2012 brought mixes by USA producer Skirt, UK producer Truss aka MPIA3, Stormfield & myself, Irish and Greek producers AnD and French producer Kangding Ray (his being voted EE mix from all shows in 2012)

Taking over the RYC waves this week, Tokyo’s finest Mari Sakurai punches in with a helluva 2-hour treat by way of introduction. Working her way in the gap betwixt post-industrial opacity and heavy-duty brutalism, Mari has been slowly but surely making a name for herself with uncompromising sets spanning everything from cool-handed big room pound to mazy abstraction and other bursts of mind-altering sonics from way deep. Known for cutting a path of destruction with every of her mixes, her RYC offering doesn’t depart from such intentions, and we’re invited to a smorgasbord of claustrophobic hi-tech onslaughts and a string of purely exhilarating, apex-seeking momentums. A few months after our successful Saüle debut, here we go again for a second round of genre-busting, boundary-pushing sonic exploration. Embracing the Idea of techno as a means of transcending our condition, both as conscious and subconscious beings, this series offers a platform for artists to express themselves with enhanced scope and purpose. For this second installment which will take place on 5 June, RYC invites a trio of musicians who’ve been pushing the envelope of techno and electronics to a broader extent. A name synonymous with bold dynamics and cutting-edge approach, London-based producer Jin Synth will take us on a mind-bending ride down her intricate rhythmic algebra and layers of hypnotic, otherworldly sonics. A jack-of-all-trades whose hybrid, unhindered vision for music has driven to all ends of the techno spectrum, the one and only DJ Pete will join us for a hectic parade of breaks-laden, bass-heavy weapons and dubbed-out tangents. Chief explorer of lushly textured folds and immersive cinematic arcs, dub techno maestro Magna Pia will take over the decks for one of those moments on the dance floor when functional innovation fuses with multi-sensory exaltation.

This mix was recorded live from Reaktor's Katharsis event in 2017.  For those that don't know, Katharsis happens once a year and is dedicated to the faster, harder and more industrial side of techno.  This was my entire 3 hour set from that night.

Over the last few years we have built a steady relationship doing events together and sharing our passion for this music.  We are teaming up once again for ADE 2018 and releasing this mix as a thank you to all our followers and supporters.

So my different roots and influences builded up Sev Dah sounds, but most of all the Balkan blackness clings strongly to the bleak percussions and rigidly uneasy synthetics that unwillingly fuse into his strongly individual take on techno. Answer Code Request Vinyl Mix 10/2012

The first edition of the Fast Forward Audio Series for this decade, we present to you a special collaborative effort between Viscerale and Adam Askov of Funeral Future, they named the mix "Life is not a Beach". It came about as the result of a close friendship that was formed a year ago.
The tracks featured in the mix were all fixtures at the local club Tuben back in the early ‘00s and have been superbly mixed by Viscerale. It’s a rare glimpse into a sound that preceded our own contributions to the Copenhagen techno.
