The “History in the Hotseat: The Teaching and Knowing of Canada’s Past” Project is part of the 2024 Knowledge Synthesis Grant Competition, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in partnership with Canadian Heritage, Genome Canada, and UK Research Innovation’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI-AHRC). The theme of the 2024 Knowledge Synthesis Grant Competition, “Evolving Narratives of Cultures and Histories,” aims to assess and mobilize the existing knowledge on how factors such as globalization, war, colonization, racism, slavery, climate change, technology, social media, and more have shaped or changed cultural and historical narratives. Following the theme and goals of “Evolving Narratives of Cultures and Histories,” the "History in the Hotseat” Project, in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights Research and 101.5 UMFM, has produced a podcast series that explores what it means to learn and teach Canadian history, considering ongoing histories of colonialism and Indigenous dispossession.

With over 1,500 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100,000 citations, Dr. Guyatt stands among the most influential figures in modern medicine. Back by popular demand, Veronica Ternopolski is here to tell us about The Get Laid* Show (Venue #13 - Duke of Kent Legion 227 McDermot Ave.) - it's a return for this popular romp that makes no promises of performance, but almost guarantees the laughs!

We've got Tara Travis with us as well, here to chat about Til Death: The Six Wives of Henry VIII (Venue #16 - PTE – Cherry Karpyshin Mainstage 393 Portage Ave. - Portage Place (3rd floor)), another returning, critically acclaimed smash!

Finally Ross McMillan is here! He's kind of a local legend and is back to tell us all about DOG (Venue #8 - The Rachel Browne Theatre - 211 Bannatyne Ave) - his new show all about our favourite four-legged friends!

Lisa, Dylan and Derek are here to tell us about FINDING RICHARD CLOSE ( Venue #10 - Asper Centre for Theatre and Film - U of W 400 Colony St ) their first show and the world premiere of a theatre company founded, in part, to build bridges between theatre and medicine. We're also joined by Lisa Kroll and Jordan Rooks to talk A Spoonful of Magic (Venue #6 - Tom Hendry Warehouse - 140 Rupert Ave.) a send up of Mary Poppins that's an enchanting performance packed with surprises, laughter, and of course, magic!

First time playwright Chance Sabados is here to talk about The Apricot Tree (Venue #5 - Son of Warehouse - 140 Rupert Ave.) which explores what it means to have lived a life worth living.

We've got Holly Brinkman in the house to discuss Bodice Ripper: A Love Story (Venue #2 - MTC Up the Alley 174 Market Ave), an improvised romp through your naughtiest fantasies.

And finally, Alan Fehr is back to chat about his returning play, The Naked Mennonite (Venue #8 - The Rachel Browne Theatre - 211 Bannatyne Ave.) which strips away the facade that can only exist in a small town!

Fedor Ikelaar, one of the world’s most prolific touring comedians, is back with No Die! (Venue #15 - The Pyramid Cabaret 176 Fort St.) a new show that's packed with big laugh, unexpected truths and one truly unforgettable ride!

Then, we've got the amazing duo of Paul Strickland and Erika MacDonald, back again with 100% UnTrueBadour! (Venue #11 - Red River College Polytech 160 Princess St.) another sure to be smash hit from this dynamic pairing who seem to collect Best of Fest awards wherever they go!

Brother Kelly is joined by Kirsten Edwards, Emily Hughes & Natalie Dupley, the trio of talented performers behind Money Fish: Balls, Balls, Balls ( Kids Venue - MTYP Mainstage 2 Forks Market Rd. ), a new full-length absurdist clown dance from crowd favourite Money Fish characters!

Brother Kelly is joined by Ingrid Garner, who is once again appearing with her moving production Eleanor's Story: An American Girl in Hitler's Germany ( Venue #16 - PTE – Cherry Karpyshin Mainstage 393 Portage Ave. ), which is based on the acclaimed memoir written by grandmother Eleanor Ramrath Garner.

We're also joined by Sally Scott and Marc Dionne, two of the talented performers who are currently appearing in Tess Talks ( Venue #9 - Planetarium Auditorium - 190 Rupert Ave ), a wonderful live storytelling event that features five dynamic storytellers from around the world sharing personal, powerful and unforgettable stories!
