If the British can boast of having an electronic scene of which Dave Clarke would be the figurehead, then on the French side of the Channel they can boast of having Fred Poncet aka UMWELT, talented producer and DJ emeritus who is well known in the underground since the 90s. Its visibility in France and internationally has been growing for several years, driven by its formidable productions and the quality of his vinyl-only sets. Umwelt’s production and selection of tracks in his DJ sets can be described as “dark electro” the term on which Umwelt himself commented: “Yes it's not bad, you can add drama too, it's good. I like the dark world with themes and atmospheres that give goosebumps.”

Tracklistings Mixtape #500 (2021.09.29) : Umwelt

Musician and activist since the first appearance of Raves, Umwelt has never stopped to propagate a fierce, raw and analog sound supported by a voracious passion for electronic music.
Founder of Rave or Die and of the New Flesh Records imprint, Umwelt boasts over forty releases to date, which place him among the most prolific French electronic producers. In 2016, after a long spell off the radar, this expert in ferocious distortions tinted with sweet melancholy delivered his second album, entitled Days of Dissent and released on Boidae. The opus was highly acclaimed by the public and the press, which proclaimed it an electro referent.

Letting instinct guide him in his path, the Lyon-based artist, a vinyl and analogue freak, continues the work of early pioneers with a wild and straight-to-the-dancefloor mode of transport, while progressively leading the listener into dark, melancholic, dancing and mental atmospheres where he alone has total control over the side effects.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of what will probably be my favourite ever Plex party - PCM2.

It was only the second time they performed live under this moniker with the first being in Berlin a few months previously.

This will be the beginning of a series of archival releases from the Plex vaults which will include DJ & live sets from all of our parties between 2006-2018. They are recordings straight from the desk and bar editing have had minimal treatment applied to keep them as true to the way they sounded when initially performed on the night.
