In this episode of the un Podcast Sarah Werkmeister speaks to Saskia Doherty, a Melbourne-based artist whose multi-layered and multi-disciplinary practice examines language, geology and entropy. 

Doherty is an artist and writer based in Narrm Melbourne. Her practice examines and aims to unpack structures that turn memory into static form: etymology, photographs, fossils, institutions. Saskia has exhibited in Australia and overseas since graduating with a BFA (Hons) from Monash University in 2013.

Sydney-based performance collective *post* is Zoë Coombs Marr, Mish Grigor and Natalie Rose. They have been making work together for over ten years.

The word that is missing from this podcast - a word mentioned by all interviewees that never made it into the final cit - is ‘daggy’. Through sampling pieces from their archives and talking to their contemporaries, this piece considers how post’s unique dag-satire denudes the contradictions of everyday life and politics, from alcoholism to feminist discourse, defecting to the theatrical canon.

Annie is an emerging young Indigenous artist whose works focus on themes of family connections, relationships, identity, pop culture, and her Yolngu cultural traditions. A recurring feature in her work is the use of text which relates to dreams, love, loss, family, and Yolngu culture.

In this episode of the un Podcast, we speak to Jason Phu, a Sydney-based artist whose interdisciplinary practice delves into his own history as a Chinese Australian, and, as you’ll find out later in the episode, into humour and bring ‘grand narratives’ back to the ground.

We spoke with Jason in August 2017, before he opened his West Space show, ‘my parents met at the fish market’, which ran from October to December. He’s been working on a new project with John Young, which will be presented by 4A in 2018. His exhibition, ‘my parents met at the fish market’ will also be touring to ACE Open in Adelaide in 2018.
