It feels like only a moment ago that we welcomed Russian prodigy Andrey Pushkarev to the Circus Company fold with the Gingo Biloba 12”, and after that refined exercise in stripped down dancefloor aesthetics it’s gives us great pleasure to bring him back in for another three-pronged demonstration of his considerable studio talent. 

The core principles laid out in that first EP are back in abundance, with Pushkarev expanding on his love of dubbed-out dance music with a fresh batch of rhythms and pulses custom-made to ensnare the subconscious in that time-honoured tradition of meditative house and techno.

Doublet is the production moniker of friends and musical partners Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo, previously releasing together on other labels, they have come together to form the
new eponymously named Doublet imprint as a channel for their own music. Tomoki and his Holic Trax label have long been serving up solid house music whilst Tuccillo has conjured up numerous Beatport chart toppers on labels like 2020Vision, Visionquest and Holic Trax. Here their unique style brings you back from classic house music to future minimalism and is sure to fill you with joy.
Up first is the title track, a charming house shuffler with woozy synths, light footed percussion and skipping rhythms that give an off kilter and deep dancefloor vibe.
‘Brother Other’ is a slightly more physical affair with lumpy beats, tense synth crescendos and stiff snares that really encourage you to shake your limbs.
Lastly, ‘Buri Planet’ is a deep and sensual number with clever vocals samples adding an element of pained soul, rubbery bass bringing warmth and golden synths and acid squelches
building yet more character.
This is accomplished, alive sounding house music that really does sound fresh. Doublet, then, is already off to a winning start.

It's latest continues in this regard, as Tamura again calls on a series of renowned friends to bring the heat. With names such as Mr.G, Satoshi Tommie and Tuccillo all appearing here alongside Tamura himself, so it's no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years is filled with drama and high points throughout.

This "Edition 1 of 5iVE YEARS HOLIC TRAX" is immediately obvious from the title that Mr.G's "Jumon EP". Pays homage to the label's Japanese heritage, 
A1 "Soba Shioyaki" is a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. Deep but tough, it's a perfect example of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. B1 "Komorebi" puts a tougher emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here.

Their four-track contribution starts with “Do It”, a spiky catchy number that’s exciting from the off. “What Row” sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before “To Ray” ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. Wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only “You Know”, a real bumper of a track with Chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes.
It’s the left to Tamura himself to close the offering via HT25. A1, the appropriately named “5ive Years’ is a techno workout of the type that’s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. Unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it’s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. “Polyphonic Six” displays the producer’s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that’s hard not to embrace. All things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from Tamura & co. Here’s to the next 5!

HT024 Satoshi Tomiie & Tuccillo - To Ray EP (5iVE YEARS HOLIC TRAX - Edition 2)

After the 3rd event season, the Swiss promoter Underground Town launches its own imprint. Strictly selected music coming exclusively from artists that have previously performed at their events.

Giorgio Maulini, originally from Caracas, Venezuela, owner and also one of the rising talents in the scene carefully selected Mihai Pol, Michael James, Funk E and one of his own productions for the first edition of the imprint.

Mihai Pol’s track (A1 - Wonderland) is a dreamy and atmospheric candy that vibes all along the 8 minutes with a very happy and mysterious combination of synths and bouncy bassline.

Ukraine’s minimal hypnotist Silat Beksi now prepares to make his signature mark with the aptly titled ‘On My Own’ Ep. This is his first solo contribution to the label, having initially christened its opening with the heady, breakbeat infused stylings of the ‘Inception’ Ep. The result of a collaborative effort alongside Heidelberg producer Durrrred. Modeight’s discography already boasts a roster of producers who are pushing boundaries in the minimal field, with Romania’s RQZ and Dragutesku, Germany’s Durrrred and ‘Methylat’ duo Virkut & Amin Ravelle’s combined output constituting a powerful sonic statement for Modeight. Silat himself continues to delve deep into his extensive musical influences, showing no signs of slowing his creative output as the talent
prepares to release more music on Welsh imprint Curtea Veche and Milan label Hashplant. This Ep see’s Silat in his element as he laces nuanced rhythms overtop of funky bassline riffs and hazy electronic artefacts, cementing himself once again as a unique and characteristically engaging artist.
