Irish DJ and producer CICI has unveiled her debut EP ‘Extraneous’, out now on Mella Dee’s Warehouse Music label: https://sq.lnk.to/WM017

A four-track release, ‘Extraneous’ kicks off with the title track, a fizzing, breakbeat-driven bomb that has already been supported by BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, where it found its way onto Jaguar’s ‘Hot List’. Next up, ‘Katnip’ is a heads-down cut, characterised by a driving 303 bassline and hypnotic vocal samples, while ‘Go Trip’ is a percussion-led groover that’s just as influenced by psychedelia as the track title suggests. Bumping, soulful house jam ‘Some People’ ensures the EP maintains its dancefloor intensity until the very end. An exceptional artist beyond just sound, CICI hand-painted the backdrop to the EP’s artwork and frequently fuses her passions with sonic inspired abstract paintings.

A stunning debut offering, ‘Extraneous’ is the work of an electronic artist destined for big things in the near future.

I’m very proud/nervous/excited to share this mix with you all 😊 This set is playfully pieced together with tracks produced exclusively by myself, and/or my homies from the @hunterthompsonsaloon in Saarbrücken. Over the last year and a half, we’ve been steadily building our library of original material (individually, and as a group). After (finally) playing these traxx on bigger systems in the clubzzz, it’s clear that the quality of music in our circle has continued to develop 😊

ABOUT YOU AS AN ARTIST

"Vinculum is originally from Fargo, North Dakota, USA. He is currently based in Heidelberg, Germany.

Vinculum ventures in making music started in his early teen years where he played in various funk, jazz, and indie/blues rock bands. He traded in his drum sticks for records when he moved away for college, and became active in the DJ scene in Omaha. In the USA, vinculum has played in support of acts such as @woody_mcbride, @Chrissytrax, and @sentenza_. Although he lives and plays in Heidelberg, vinculum’s more permanent residency is in Saarbrücken with Hunter Thompson. While his rate of releasing music has slowed, his production rate has not. Adding to his occasional releases with his beloved Hunter Thompson, vinculum will be releasing a 12-track album later this year via @labernichtrecords entitled “Weil halt” (digital and vinyl)."

When it comes to highly-rated up and coming techno acts Karen & Ty aka Black Girl / White Girl are head and shoulders above the rest. Perhaps best known for their releases on Green Velvet’s label Relief Records, the girls also have music on Skream’s Of Unsound Mind, Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars and Hector Couto’s Roush. Showcasing a wide spectrum sound for the discerning dancefloors of the world means everyone from The Black Madonna to Maya Jane Coles have shown support and their fanbase grows weekly.   

First up is the bumpy groove of the title track ‘Flexxulator’ with a funky acidic bottom end accompanied by clattering has, creepy laughs and nuanced rave stabs. Soulful Tech at its best. 

‘Green Crack’ ups the ante with phat kicks and loopy intensity. Its wonky bass completes the picture as vocal chops bring out the fun factor 100%. Whilst ‘Telepathy’ is a decidedly more hypnotic affair with its sparse percussion, a thumping low end and perfectly balanced melodics. It yet stays energic none the less. 

Finally, ‘Unfading’ closes out the EP with a blistering techno beat, some off-kilter FX and a vocal cut which adds that soulful touch.
