New Beginnings is a new V/A compilation from Melbourne, Australian artists, releasing on July the 14th, 2021. The project was mostly conceived and incubated through the extended lock-down of 2020.  This album features musical creations from a whopping 17 different electronic beat-makers and vocalists, across 13 tracks. Various genres are blended and mashed together, sticking true to the label’s ethos of audible diversity.

The opening track 'Novice' was produced by GezFire, setting
the scene perfectly with his first ever officially released piece of music. 
GezFire's roots in Dub-stylings and syncopated rhythm drive home his four and a half minute voyage of drum breaks, emotive vocal chops and spacey synths.

It’s been four years since our last compilation album, but we are proud to finally unleash ‘New Beginnings’…

Conceived and incubated within the dark depths of the 2020 extended lockdown in Melbourne, ‘New Beginnings’ features a roster of entirely Victoria-based artists. What started out as a simple idea for a small project to keep us busy and engaged, quickly played out into a much larger than anticipated piece of work.

‘New Beginnings’ features musical creations from a whopping 17 different electronic beat-makers and vocalists across 13 tracks. Various genres are blended and mashed together, sticking true to the label’s ethos of auditory diversity.

The opening theme ‘Novice‘ was produced by our dear friend and fellow Beat-Smith GezFire, setting the scene perfectly with his first ever officially released piece of music. GezFire’s roots in Dub-stylings and syncopated rhythm drive home his four and a half minute voyage of drum breaks, emotive vocal chops and spacey synths.

Across the full-length of the album each song present its own unique story; Taking us on seamless journey through off-kilter raps from the likes of Adam Koots, Craver and Joe Snow, to the chilled lo-fi beats of Sadiva and up-tempo Juke/Footwork of Black Scott.

To complete the package we enlisted the skills of Tobius Millar, a celebrated Melbournian visual artist known for his surreal, organic and often psychedelic artworks. With great intricacy Tobius designed the accompanying art piece from scratch using a mixture of hand drawn and digital methods, bringing the cover to life with his own style. This artwork is also available as an exclusive NFT, plus an extremely limited run of physical prints.

‘New Beginnings’ is by no means meant to represent a definitive list of Melbourne’s vast talent pool (if only we had the time and resources!) We like to think that it represents a solid snapshot in time and is a celebration of the awesome sound that can be captured from within our own backyard.

Plug in and 'Recondition', the debut release from Prism Shank, the rapidly emerging bass music producer and DJ hailing from Phoenix, Arizona.

From start to finish 'Recondition' administers a strong dose of twisted futurism, drawing from the sounds of dubstep, trap and left-field bass. The opening theme 'Collider' was designed specifically to begin the override process and remove the limitations imposed by the frontal cortex, kick-starting the adrenal glands. The program continues the reformatting operation seamlessly across the rest of the EP, operating in and on the subconscious.

The four-tracker was created by Prism Shank, who himself was seeking a new neural pathway link, in an effort to overcome deep creative blocks and discover a new way forward. In order to challenge himself and reconfigure his creative process, he set about creating musical concepts using the limitations of only his own phone handset.

After an extended period of perfecting this concept across various applications, he was eventually able to defrag his creative subconscious, proving to be the first successful trail of his own 'Recondition' patch. Soon afterward, a partnership was established with Australia’s Uncomfortable Beats Corp, who formed a technical bridge that would allow the sonic teleportation of these sequences to sound systems and dance-floors across the globe.
After numerous tweaks to the patent, adhering to strict Government regulation, ‘Recondition’ was finally given the release date of August 24

The attention-grabbing track also fit like a glove when it featured on ‘Secret Writer 5’ an in-depth performance video by legendary graffiti artist ‘Sofles’.

Well known for his discography with Leeds crew ‘Defenders of Style’ and various works with Melbourne’s ‘Pang Productions’, Joe Snow has been a staple in the UK-Hip-Hop scene, but now also making great strides in Australia. He has boldly ventured into new musical territories over the past few years, sharpening his vocal repertoire and further developing his sound with crews like ‘Hi Trax’ plus 140 collaborations with producers like ’Danny T & Tradesman’, all while still staying true to his fundamentals.

Face Invada has also been successfully unleashing quality Drum & Bass, Footwork and Dubstep for years. His sound is clean and defined, always packed with a deep low-end. The Brisbane-based producer has released music with a plethora of labels, including recently Sequel One, Nu Kvlture, 8Ball to name just a few. Not to mention both artists also featured on the recent ‘New Beginnings’ compilation put out by Uncomfortable Beats earlier in the year!

Megalodon Music is a sustained onslaught of technical flows woven over the violent bass lines of RaptorHandz. The record also boasts a feature from top ranking UK Grime and D’n’B MC Devilman. With determination to put heavy pressure on dance floors through the use of relentless bass, and complex double-time flows, Hi Trax is set to light the scene on fire.

HI TRAX pays homage to Hip-Hop, Grime and Dubstep and blends these influences to create a unique style of up-tempo, bass-heavy electronica. Their first video single; ‘Locked’, taken from the groups debut EP ‘Megalodon Music’ was filmed and directed by prominent videographer; Carl Allison which saw the deployment of his signature cinematic prowess. The opening track puts the crews raw talent on full display seamlessly, merging genres.

Fax Error is the new collaborative track from @Tobacco-Rat x @RaptorHandz 

Started in 2017 the synth-driven crusher is the first of many collaborative tracks in the pipeline from the pair. A heavy sonic blend of hand-recorded foley, squelching Moog Voyager, glitched-out Amen Breaks and found sound layering, the track was mostly completed in an afternoon; with post-production polish added over the following months, the glacial pace of creation is masked by the track’s neck break adrenaline rush vibe.

Fax Error drops on World Rat Day (Thursday, April 4th) digitally through Uncomfortable Beats.

The ‘Dumont EP’ is Saltfeend’s third release with Melbourne's Uncomfortable Beats label, and arguably his most well refined catalog of work to date. This seven track voyage of sound embodies various styles of beats, threaded together by the same organic and deeply layered, lush sounding production flavor we have grown to love from the Portland based artist.

Leaning heavily on the inspiration of his surroundings (specifically the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and the generous ever-changing local music scene), the beats included on the ‘Dumont EP’ are a personal snapshot-in-time. From the chunky flow of ‘Kicking Horse’, (inspired by a Canadian Rockies road trip), to the synth-hop flavoured ‘Float’ (brought on by a remote mountain cabin getaway), the Dumont EP weaves together a sense of place, both near and far.

Adding further to the personal sense of the EP is the textured cover design, which was conceived from an original digital-illustration by Saltfeend’s daughter Maizy, a budding visual artist.
