Soul Clap’s Charlie aka Charlie Soul Clap preps his UTM debut with an all out edit dream for Roy Davis Jr.’s elusive label.

For fans of Soul Clap and Roy Davis Jr. alike, the second release since Undaground Therapy Muzik’s relaunch will feel at home in their library. The new EP by Charlie Soul Clap comes in the form of a rhythm focused 4 track take — comprised of 2 A’s with 2 B’s that take a deeper focus on the first track on the release – Virgo’s Victory. The world has been closed for long enough, so Charlie and Roy felt it was time to refashion living rooms as dance floors and introduce something you could have a gentle afternoon or late night boogie too. The EP cements Charlie’s solo works as a clear ode to disco and classic house music.

The EP is being released on the 21st May worldwide. For everyone to enjoy. There may be a vinyl press when the record shops are open around the world again, but for now – this will be homed on all your favourite streaming sites, and of course, the UTM Bandcamp.

Charlie stands with two feet firmly planted on top of a mountain named Soul Clap and yet he points further into the sky with a look of mischievous excitement. Somewhere, deep on the horizon, the mystery of his musical journey will unfold. Charlie is devoted to following in the footsteps of those who have paved the way before him and continues to churn out thematic dance music that is routed in tradition but is eclectic, unexpected and contemporary edging into the future. As a principle songwriter for Soul Clap he has worked with artists like George Clinton, Nona Hendryx, Louie Vega, Laid Back, Amp Fiddler, Robert Owens, Sa’D “The Hourchild” Ali, XL Middleton, Midnight Magic, Lee Curtiss, Martin Buttrich, Wolf + Lamb, Nick Monaco, No Regular Play, PillowTalk, Navid Izadi and on and on.

For the reissue, Men From The Nile are joined by some of the biggest names in dance music. Green Velvet aka Cajmere has been a mainstay in the Chicago circuit since the 90s, making a name for himself as a multifaceted artist as well as label head at Cajual Records and Relief Records. Key players in the club scene for over two decades, Boston duo Soul Clap launched Soul Clap Records in 2012 and have since released more than 450 tracks on their imprint. They can also be found in the Crew Love collective alongside Wolf + Lamb and Double Standard. One of the pinnacle figures in the Chicago House scene, Derrick Carter needs no introduction. Releasing his debut single Love Me Right in 1987, he has become a leading figure in dance music. Jazzanova are a Berlin based collective with a production career spanning over two decades. Chicago born DJ Pierre changed the scene forever with the release of his Acid Tracks EP in 1987, as it saw the birth of acid house.

Continuing the slew of releases on Roy Davis Jr.’s Undaground Therapy Muzik imprint, Italian artist Nico Lahs is set to release his Holy Day EP on the label this May. Following on from Men From The Nile and Turquoise Colored French Tourists, Lahs has created a classy four tracker EP to move your body and soul.

Bringing emotion to the forefront of each track, the EP seamlessly blends balearic vibes with soulful Chicago house. Crunchy percussion and rhythmic jazz filled grooves open the EP in the form of Bossa Rhythm. Title track Holy Day is a hypnotic, dreamy offering catapulting the listener to a sun-drenched landscape. Moonlight and Sunday Morning continue with the dopamine hit as loose and funky grooves weave throughout.

Nico Lahs aka Nicola Loporchio is a sound engineer, DJ and producer and has been creating emotive deep house since 2009. A consistent and impressive musical output has resulted in Lahs releasing on labels including; Ovum Recordings, Adeen Records, Delusions of Grandeur, Metamorphic Recordings, Dailysession Records and Moods
and Grooves among others. Lahs can also be found gracing the club scene at a number of prestigious clubs including; Cable, Club der Visionaere, Djoon, KaterHolzig, Rex Club, Sankeys, and Tresor. As an artist that is continually experimenting and pushing his musical boundaries, Lahs can also be found under the Cosmic Garden
and NLXLB aliases.

London based Undaground Therapy Muzik affiliate Al Zanders makes a welcome return to Roy Davis Jr.’s imprint this summer with Stars of IG. After a brief hiatus the A-Z Records founder and Balamii mainstay has created a playful, Chicago house and Nu-disco inspired three tracker.

“In a similar vein to the Guidance EP, this is a nod to the classic sounds of Chicago house and Nu-disco, done in Zander's own style. Roy, alongside producers such as Quincy Jones, Boo Williams and Soichi Terada all influenced the deep and melodic sound of this release. B2 'With Racionzer' features the very talented Ben Racionzer on the trumpet”. Al Zanders 

Title track Stars of IG demonstrates how Zanders is a master of blending unique samples and grooves to create a cohesive sound. Highlighting the artist’s skill at using percussion to its full potential, the track builds into a mischievous yet serene soundscape. Continuing the theme of jazz laced house, Spring Boo is a sophisticated number, with glitchy samples layered over a shimmering baseline. Renowned for his soulful sampling and use of live instrumentation the slick Racionzer is last up, with the track name referencing Zander’s collaboration with musician
Benjamin Racionzer on trumpet.

Originally from Sheffield, Zanders first released on UTM in 2018 with his Guidance EP, breaking the label’s sixteen year hiatus in not releasing any music. Regularly supported by his peers, Zander’s music has featured in Midland’s Dekmantel Boiler Room, Gilles Peterson’s 6 Music show, Leon Vynehall’s BBC Essential Mix, Denis Sulta’s Mixmag Cover mix and more. Zander’s track Long Gone on Blind Jacks Journey recently surpassed 3 million streams on Spotify.

Tapping into the sounds of deep, soulful house and disco originating from around the world, Zanders' sets have seen him touring globally. Whether it’s a small basement club in Tokyo, XOYO in London or festivals including Lost Village and Gotwood. Started in 2016, Zander’s A-Z Records is still based in Sheffield and thanks to its diverse and bold output tastemakers including Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Boiler Room and DJ Mag have all supported the
label.
