“Yeah” is the image of being led through the city with your love at sunset. From that we wanted to paint the soundscape peach by integrating instruments and sounds that bring back memories of childhood. Cash registers, quacking trombones, nintendo synths, fisher price xylophones, a jack in the box boing, and dolphin sounds take you back to simpler days of cartoons and gushers. Combined with hip hop elements, “Yeah” exudes an air of cool, confident nostalgia.

“Oh My God!” is a compactly anthemic call to get out on the street. The verses bring the hype with vocal agility, thick synths, and hard hitting percussion. The chorus settles into the funk groove of the bass to highlight the latin shuffle beat and gritty James Brown flair. Throw in a few tricks (horns, spanish guitar lines, beatboxing) and you get Oh My God!’s energetic stride.

“Girl” is a reflective yet hopeful conversation amidst an ending relationship. Feeling still closely removed, but being told you don’t know her anymore. These emotions are born in warm horns, lyrical keys, and a soulful vocal that adds calm to an open narrative.

We featured Montreal-based crooner Dave Basso on this retro-inspired, anthemic dance track. Bookending the NuDisco core of the song is a trap-waltz dream sequence that transports you through a 1940's stargazing scene, concluding with a poignantly simple sample from Sinatra himself. Papa Bare closes Discothèque with a thoughtful introspection that reflects the emotional narrative of the double-EP project.

ii. Colors Interlude

Needed For reflects on a recently faded close relationship, and grapples with words, their meaning, and the difficulty of accepting what was said to you when you know that it's unchangeable. A simple and spacious beat leaves room for BROTHER BLACK's perspective and self-reflection to move through hazy synth skies.

Fade is a cathartic meditation on anxiety, mental health, and staying present. We wrote this song to share our experiences and reframe them in a track that manages the headspace by finding calm and rhythm in driving synth beats. It's a song about letting go, releasing to movement, and allowing your mind to finally fade away.

I made most of it up as I went and did it in one take, which I’ve never done before, so I’m not sure exactly what brought each word out of me. But a lot of it reflects the solemn and temporarily hopeful abuse cycle I felt in the relationship, and trying to understand that while also feeling so much love and being in love. The lyrics are driven I think mostly by those experiences/feelings, with other things woven in
