Ràkale is the nickname chosen by the Italian Dodi Palese. It is also the name of his own label which he started in 2017. Since his first EP released on the long-lived Munich finest Compost Records, Palese has been building a solid reputation in the deep-house Detroit inspired scene.

Irregular Step is the name of his release with Massimiliano Pagliara's Funnuvojere. This EP epitomises Palese's production expertise clearly grasped in its exquisite harmonies and sturdy grooves.

Skilful machine layering yields to a deeply emotive electro cosmic sound that opens up the record. 

While the bass-line recalls stone-cold Chicago house classics, the final composition of A2 builds up to a genre-busting spaced-out peak-time bomb. 

On B side a playful Synth-wave arpeggio is juxtaposed against luxurious strings that tease and stretch the sonic landscape. Ràkale continues exploring Synth-wave in B2 - Venere. Evoking dancers at dawn, under a Venus-twinkling sky, this rocketing cosmic chorus blurs the line between day and night, galaxies near and far.

The idiosyncratic musical style and production practices by Sheldon, Sidney Thompson (aka Sid Le Rock) are shaped by the DIY electronic-music movement that has encouraged his creativity to develop and thrive since the late ’90s. This is a contributing factor to his impressive discography that currently stands at twelve albums under his various aliases, including Sid’s collaborations with artists from various fields and musical genres such as Depeche Mode, DJ Koze, Placebo, and persistent impressions of the journeys he has made throughout the world as a result of his live music performances.

These invaluable experiences are the supplements for his next important leap forward as follows: As a tribal member of the Algonquin First Nations, Sid seeks to explore his ancestral heritage to uncover the traditional, ceremonial soundscapes of the Native American indigenous peoples as an integral component for his new solo album project – Invisible Nation. It is his respectful endeavour to bind this seamlessly together through his knowledge of music theory and his own distinctive production sound. Sid Le Rock’s current album concept is a fusion of traditional music and organic elements utilized by the Aboriginal peoples of Canada, combined with the modernization of electronic-based music. Mixing of both sound styles achieves balance with shared importance to rhythm as a source of impulse and functionality. It is his equitable attempt to produce and deliver a complementary synthesis of sonic peculiarities, modern electronic methods and the repurposed use of ceremonial music, to showcase a profound pride and pay homage to his forebears.

The Algonquin First Nations otherwise referred to as Anishinaabe, are a group of indigenous peoples present in the Great Lakes region of Canada. They consider music and dance to be sacred and an integral part of their lives. It is a culture that heavily relies on rich oral traditions to pass on its stories, teachings, history, and cultivates its verbal language. Membranophone, idiophone, aerophone, and chanting are traditionally essential components of our sacred sound, This musical connection produces a narrative depth that can transport an effective atmosphere to dance-floors, bridged by unconventional virtues, to which electronic music permits limitless possibilities. Sid Le Rock’s latest release marks his eighth studio album – Invisible Nation, which is an exploration of his cultural roots, combining myth and musical expression to bring forth a prideful nation.

PREMIERE: Shades of Play - No Promises

The second instalment on Swung Out Records, 'I Wanna Love You' EP, comes via long-time collaborators - Theon Bower and Takao.

Recorded in their studio in South London, the EP draws from 90s rave culture, with the title track 'I Wanna Love You' featuring acid-inspired bass lines and 909 elements, while 'Bottle Action' features a hypnotising arpeggiated synth over a stripped back percussion track.

Darkroom Dubs returns with a little late-night disco dissonance. It's time for some ‘Unstable Harmony’.

Following a brief hiatus - during which the label has been preparing for its forthcoming 20th anniversary - Silicone Soul’s longstanding imprint strides into 2022, fashionably late with this powerful label debut from Günce Aci.

An unstoppable tour-de-force from Istanbul in recent years, Günce has been weaving between the genres, joining hypnotic dots in the darkest shadows of house, disco, indie and electronica on labels such as Nein, Ombra International and Spectrowave. Now she lands Darkroom Dubs with two blisteringly fresh originals that defy categorisation.

‘Unstable Harmony’ sets the pace and tone. A bulbous bassline pushes the message with urgency in a way not dissimilar to Black Strobe. Laced with dark disco nuances and an unfaltering groove strong enough to melt concrete, don’t be fooled by the title: this guarantees the sweetest of dancefloor harmonies.

‘No Longer Human’ increases the feeling of unease and tension with a lingering groove that lurks and raises in weight and momentum but never peaks. The perfect transition track or palette cleanser, Günce’s broken beats, insistent bassline and spiralling musical elements can disarm a crowd at 20 paces. And will do for a long time to come.

Stay tuned as Darkroom Dubs have plenty more to drop throughout 2022 from old friends and new. Expect beats from new signings Alvaro Cabana & Fargo Devanti and Abel Ray, plus the return of Undo, Amount and Am$trad Billionaire.
