What is the point of even writing down a verse ?
If you have something to say whatever can be worst (than),
Stamping a song « smoke grass » with a thud.
And if there is message you just nipped it in the bud (so).

For those who take the time to not judge by the cover,
For those who judge themself before they judge another.
For those who think that this is not a quick fix,
Legalize or not, that’s just for politics.

Complètement de l’Ouest, les oreilles braquées sur l’Atlantique Noire, Julien Ger- vaix et Damien Tesson sont tous deux des enfants du collectif et de l’improvisation, terrains de jeux pour ces multi-instrumentistes complets.
Le premier met d’abord ses talents d’arrangeur-saxophoniste au service du collec- tif nantais Soulshine et de nombreuses formations – tour à tour funk ou rhythm’n blues – où chalouper fait la loi. C’est le cas notamment du groupe afrobeat Walko, au sein duquel Julien Gervaix a l’honneur de partager la scène et le studio pendant plusieurs années avec Kiala Nzavotunga, guitariste émérite de Fela Kuti et d’Egypt 80. Pendant ce temps-là, le second fait ses classes de dubmaster-guitariste-arrangeur à l’école reggae roots option digital du collectif vendéen Shi Fu Mi Temple. Une initiation qui amène Damien Tesson à intégrer, entre autres, le groupe nantais BIBA (Bingy Band) puis à collaborer avec Jideh High Elements, incontournable sur la scène dub internationale, Roberto Sanchez et l’équipe de son Lone Ark Studio, mais aussi Sana Bob, célèbre chanteur de reggae burkinabè. Et puis, la vie étant bien faite, les chemins de Julien Gervaix et Damien Tesson finissent par se croiser au sein du com- bo jazz-funk Playtime, avant de se retrouver en Vendée quelques années plus tard. Avec un tropisme évident pour les grooves afro-latins, les couleurs tropicales, les bidouilles électroniques et les furieux déhanchés, les deux musiciens créent alors Ireke comme on lève un verre de rhum bien arrangé. À la nôtre, à la vôtre ! Comme guidé par l’esprit de la plante, Ireke trinque pour célébrer l’immense richesse de ces rythmes à danser, véritables générateurs de vie, de lien et d’énergie.

À la manière de Legba, orisha yoruba des carrefours et de la croisée des chemins, Ireke s’épanouit à l’entre-monde. Conscient de la lignée d’orfèvres qui les ont précédés, Ireke connaît ses classiques et s’inspire humblement, pour Tropikadelic, du génie musical de Pat Thomas, Orchestre Poly-rythmo, King Tubby,Tony Allen, Fela

Kuti, Maître Gazonga, Ernesto Djédjé ou encore des Vikings de la Guadeloupe. Cuiv- res extatiques, claviers 70’s, guitares élastiques, basses rondes et percussions-monde : de cet héritage sonique, Ireke fait une fusion unique, augmentée par l’apport auda- cieux de sa science dub, et quelques touches électroniques patiemment débusquées dosées en studio – que le duo considère comme un instrument à part entière.

Enfin, pour donner de la voix à ses compositions, sur Tropikadelic, Ireke fait appel à une armée de sérieux enjailleurs dont chacun.e des membres est venu.e avec ses textes. Ainsi retrouve-t-on aux côtés d’Ireke le griot du groove Pat Kalla (“Femme qui Danse”, “Love Is Jokin”), le reggaeman franco-laotien Amatah Keo (“Man Bo Diak”), les vendéen. ne.s Agnès Hélène (“Petit à Petit”,“Oh Ma Chérie”) et Charly Sanga (“Bas Les Masques”, “Oh Ma Chérie”), le lion zion burkinabè Sana Bob (“Métissage”) ainsi que le soulman nantais Jy Cooly (“Kinkeliba”).

Pour le duo, la musique s’envisage avant tout comme une pratique collective, une libération active, une approche cadencée du lâcher-prise, une source de joie com- municative… En bref, groove is the weapon ! Et Ireke sait s’en servir.

“HELLO VERA” is a story of a girl called Vera and her journey to find true love. 

Vera’s story is told through a record player, a stack of vinyl, a sampler and a bunch of different keyboard instruments, and is created by the danish producer and beatmaker, SUM’ONE.

Since the beginning of his musical career and from his first push on the MPC2000, he has been inspired by artists like MOBY, RJD2, DJ SHADOW, PORTISHEAD and DAFT PUNK. SUM’ONE was especially attracted to the electronic and sample-based instrumental genre, where the instruments are the main ingredient when creating the musical mood. Until now he has never had the chance to put everything else aside and focus one hundred percent on this.

So far, his musical career has been as one of the founders and band member of DAFUNIKS and OTIS STACKS where the music was a perfect mix of hip hop, funk and soul. These past adventures have given SUM’ONE the opportunity to travel around the world and achieving goals, that he never imagined was possible. These past adventures have also led to unimaginable collaborations with childhood idols like AFRIKA BABY BAM of THE JUNGLE BROTHERS, AKIL THE MC & MARC 7 of JURASSIC 5 and the late GIFT OF GAB of BLACKALICIOUS. 

“Despite of the joy of working with a lot of talented people, I have chosen to go on this adventure by myself. SUM’ONES long-lasting love for sampling and vintage synths has always played a major role in his music and this will probably never change. So, while the sound is inspired from the same vintage universe, the tempo has been raised and the dusty breakbeats have met the signature kick of the early disco era. 
Where the music’s capability to explain a feeling or tell a story is the primary. The type of genre and style has become secondary and more fluid. 
It’s all about that certain feeling at the time the music was created instead of the result of an already planned goal.

OTIS STACKS 
Otis Stacks is a collaboration between Michael Munch aka JustMike, a producer from Denmark, and Elias Wallace a singer songwriter from Pasadena, California.    The music is analog synth based soul with undertones of the hiphop culture that both grew up in.
Otis Stacks sound was conceived out of JustMike’s growing collection of vintage analog synths. As he collected old analog synthesizers, he experimented with new sounds and created a sparse soulful sound. During a tour through the French Alps with Elias and the Danish band Dafuniks, Elias and JustMike recorded a song that later would became “Fashion Drunk”, the first single off of their EP “The Break up.” After hearing the sound that they both came up with they formed Otis Stacks and wrote and recorded songs in Nice, Montpellier, and Paris, France while on tour.
Otis Stacks use of analog synth sounds and Rhodes piano give it a distinct sparse sound. It is soulful and hearkening back to an older more pure time in music before over processing and auto tune dominated the approach. Elias adds thoughtful, emotional lyrics and strong melodies to the mix. It all works together to create meaningful songs that explore loss, pain, and longing in the sometimes vacuous and hedonistic nature of the music world.

Otis Stacks est né d’une collaboration entre le producteur Danois Michael Munch aka Just Mike, et Elias Wallace, auteur compositeur chanteur de Pasadena, en Californie.
C’est lors d’une tournée dans les Alpes françaises avec leur autre projet commun : Dafuniks, que les deux compères écrivent leur première chanson, «Fashion Drunk» premier extrait et single de cet EP à paraître. Ce premier essai, les conforte dans leur aventure commune et leur collaboration unique prend forme. Le projet OTIS STACKS a désormais pris vie et les amène à écrire et composer lorsqu’ils se retrouvent en France pour la tournée des Dafuniks. Entre Nice, Montpellier, et Paris l’Ep se construit et se peaufine à distance entre les Etats Unis et le Danemark.
Leur musique analogique se nourrit d’une base synthétique avec de larges nuances empruntées à la culture hip-hop dans laquelle tous deux ont grandi. Le tissu musical construit par Just Mike est brodé d’une collection de sons de synthétiseurs analo- giques vintage qu’il collectionne depuis plus d’une décennie.
Avec eux il expérimente de nouveaux sons, construit, déconstruit, jusqu’à produire un son soul clairsemé, épuré, et novateur. Une dentelle musicale qui permet ensuite à la voix puissante et sensuelle d’Elias de se poser au fil de mélodies accrocheuses et aux textes profonds abordant les notions de perte, de douleur, de nostalgie, mais aussi un regard abrupt sur la nature humaine parfois vide de sens.
C’est en 2016 qu’ils rejoignent le label hexagonal Underdog Records (Dafuniks, Flox, Fanga, Tribeqa, John Milk, D-Bangerz, Sweatshop...) ainsi que le producteur de spectacles CARTEL ( Chinese Man, Deluxe) séduit par la qualité de leur live session enregistrée chez Findspire.
Otis Stacks un projet soul, aux sonorités vintage, et aux arrangements contemporains, porté par une écriture émotionnelle et réfléchie qui ne vous laissera pas indifférent.

La chanson, écrite en lingala (une des langues du Congo/Brazzaville), est initialement un hommage aux femmes congolaises victimes des dernières guerres civiles qui ont ravagé le pays. C'est l'appel de détresse d'une femme, qui porte la vie, sème ses fruits, et qui pourtant, reçoit en retour de l'Amour quelle donne, une place aux premiers rangs de l'horreur dans les conflits armés. Leurs bourreaux ont oublié qu'elles pourraient être leurs soeurs, leurs filles, leurs amies... Après la guerre, les survivantes jouent un rôle crucial dans la reconstruction de la société. Certaines élèvent avec un amour inconditionnel leurs enfants nés du viol. Ce sont aussi les premières à faire preuve d'une grande tolérance, à être les gardiennes de la paix, dans un esprit de pardon, indispensable pour que l'Histoire ne se répète pas. C'est cette puissance de transformation, cette source intarissable d'Amour que ces femmes ont pu trouver en elles qui a inspiré cette chanson.
