Underdog - NIKO - intro live con "indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto"

Underdog is a musical project named after the Charles Mingus biography’s “Beneath the Underdog”.
The aim of the project is to produce a rhythmic mix of jazz sounds and various styles, inspired to (among the others) Kurt Weill, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, and bands such as Einstuerzende Neubauten, Brainiac, Primus.
Underdog music is an interpay between a nasal and schizophrenic male voice and a beautiful and mystic female voice.
The band is in continuous evolution: open to collaborations with other musicians, always trying to have a jazz approach to the artistic performance. Every voice and sound in the band match the music in a fine and impulsive way, keeping together harmony and noise. That’s how the structure of each song get to life.
After critical and public acclaim of the first record “Keine Psychotherapie” (2009), Keep Calm is coming out in November 2012, just after the digital EP “Empty Stomach” of September 2012.
Extreme images and violent sounds are used to create vicious atmospheres for a 12-song record in which instruments are states of mind, moods, shadows and emotions meeting up.


The first official UNDERODG album “Keine Psychotherapie” is published at the beginning of 2009, produced by ALTIPIANI and MARTELABEL. The album receive an enormous audience and critical acclaim which gives the band the opportunity to play all around Italy.

In 2010, Underog are in the line-up of the “Avantgardè Festival” in Hamburg (organized by Jean Hervè from FAUST) and, together with Luigi Cinque and the Hipertext O’rchestra, of the “Roma Incontra il Mondo Festival” in Roma, the main summer musical event in Rome.

The intense live activity has continued throughout 2011, with some of the member of the band also collaborating with other musical projects and international and Italian musicians (i.e. Uwe Bastiansen, from FAUST and Geoff Leigh from HENRY COW).

In September 2012, the digital EP “Empty Stomach” is published. The EP anticipates the new album and contains two new songs: “Empty Stomach” (album version) and “Goodbye” in a live version featuring the great jazz piano/accordion player Antonello Salis.

The second official album titled “Keep Calm” is released in November 2012, published again by ALTPIANI and MARTELABEL. “Keep Clam” is an eclectic album characterized by extreme images in lyrics and eclectic melodies, a surprising collection of songs in which voices and instruments meet up to create every time a different sound. Again, the album receive a great audience and critical acclaim.

Just after the release of the album, the band has begun to tour again Italy. In May 2013, UNDERDOG will play at the prestigious Auditorium Parco della Musica of Rome, one of the most beautiful music hall in Italy, hosting all the most important music event in Rome.

The 2013 has been an extraordinary year for the band with over 50 dates throughout Italy and a special participation at the Sziget Festival in Budapest. The Underdog is one of the most interesting bands of the Italian alternative music scene with a live-show surreal and unique.

In March 2014 UNDERDOG release a DVD “Roundabout Rome - Live Sessions” : a collaboration between The BlobVideo and MArteLabel and it was recorded during two live performances in Rome:  Auditorium Parco della Musica and Angelo Mai, where Giovanni Gulino  from the band Marta Sui Tubi and Ben Lamar Gay, from the Association for the Advancement of creative musicians of Chicago, were special guests.
