Episode 11 of #DontMentionIt is a conversation with Lilianna Reyes, Second Stories Director at the Ruth Ellis Center, Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Trans Sistas of Color Project - Detroit. In this episode, Lilianna and I talk about the history of the Ruth Ellis Center, the work the center is doing to support at-risk LGBTQIA+ youth in Detroit, and we talk about the Trans Sistas of Color Project, which is about to become a 501c3, and in an organization run by and for trans women of color in the Detroit area. We talk about the role racism and privilege play in funding and access to services for the LGBTQIA+ community. We talk about how donations and funding for the LGBTQ community rarely reaches trans women of color. We talk about the services the Ruth Ellis Center provides to LGBTQIA+ youth who have nowhere else to go.
