"I was lucky enough to be invited to play one of TOYTOY’s day events in September, and given my place on the line-up and the general vibe of the event I thought it would be a nice opportunity to showcase some of other sounds that I’m into. Starting out with some house-leaning numbers, I slowly progressed into darker, jacking rhythms as the sun went down and the floor filled up. It’s always refreshing getting to play something different to a receptive crowd. Daryn Steytler kicks things off for us on the podcasts. Daryn Steytler is a young Techno producer hailing from Stellenbosch/Cape Town. His reputable Industrial underground sound of production has seen this young talent play various stages across the country. Daryn Steytler is also the founder and director of LINKED which is an event company that feeds into the ever growing techno scene in Cape Town. Daryn Steytler also runs his own imprint/label called KONCEPT which is an independent Cape Town based record label straight out of Stellenbosch and strives on underground culture and industrial production. Inspiration coming from LINKED events and the sound that the event portrays.

Jhonny LP, Palau (OFC) - Entwined [Sonnet Speciale]

I recorded these, using only the Roland T8 drum machine, outside as it got dark.
The first one I did at the beach in Crete (130 bpm) and the second one, a week later, in a park in Vienna (120bpm).
These spontaneous sessions are so much fun, specially at such beautiful places.

"The mix includes music from myself and @redacsf off my label Knowledge Imprint. I also tried to focus on tracks from friends and collaborators; as such you will find music from @kaiserksr_it, @kalterende, @moteka, @basamro, @vicmarick to name a few.

I structured the mix in a way that I thought would be representative of a full night at TOYTOY. Starting with some ambient, leading into some warmer sounding grooves then pushing through to the more frenetic stuff and finally closing off with some decompressing dub sounds. I appreciate the club night’s strong history in the South African scene and it’s ability to unite a broad spectrum of artists and clubbers - as such, I decided to mix old with new, local with international and hard with soft to create a journey that ebbs and flows and caters to a broad range of tastes." - @deanoknowledge
