Detroit Techno  - part 2

Blurring the lines between UK techno, bass and breakbeat, Out of Sorts present their first release The Crescent VA. Despite being newcomers on the scene, the Bristol-based label pulls in five artists who are by no means newcomers themselves. With respective releases spanning across the likes of Scuffed, Gestalt, Homage and SPE:C, the artists on board create a release brimming with inventive, low-end dancefloor pressure.

Setting the pace from the off, Will Hofbauer's sub-fuelled opener combines shadowy vocals with a rumbling low-end. Tucked away in his arsenal since 2018, JBU ‘18 is an example of Will’s impressive versatility. Farr's Bassline Interferometry further flattens the gas pedal with intricate percussion orbiting around a chest-rattling bass to form a delectable peak time groove. With a strong release on Vienna Underground Traxx and more in store for this year, Farr is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Dyslecta announces himself here with Engram. A bouncy, rhythmic affair with rich sub-bass and FX-fuelled vocals that wouldn't go amiss in the heights of the rave era. An Avrin has put his unique style to use on labels like SPE:C and Scuffed Recordings. That same quirky style is
showcased with Smug. Fizzing with inventive energy and clever sound design, the track is guaranteed to leave an impression on listeners. To see out the EP Bobo steps up with Sin, a spaced-out number that dips its toes into jungle territory. The closing cut is ethereal and in parts
melancholic, without sacrificing its dancefloor DNA.

Dawn Razor and Archetech, two friends and two-thirds of the once-active trio Sonnen Blumen Kerne, have collaborated to deliver an album of tracks previously released exclusively on vinyl through Dawn Razor’s NARA Records. When Lobster Theremin ceased operations, the stock of these releases was lost, leaving only brief preview snippets online.

Adam approached HOMAGE with the story and shared the tunes with us. Moved by the situation, we decided to release all of the tracks as a retrospective album. Thus, 'Half Life' was born—a collection of 10 tracks that blur the boundaries between slammin' electro, breakbeat, and mutated bass, all with a minimalist edge.

'Half Life' will be available to stream and download from May 17th, 2024.

Martin Kuška returns into the waters of melodic dreamy progressive and distinctive techno under the artist name Goodbye Mirage to release EP Thrills and Maybe Ecstasy. After experimenting with ambient and soundtrack soundscapes last year, he serves up a 5-track club EP in which, while ignoring many current trends, he explores how far we can push the intensity of our experiences and passions.

Czech producer, enthusiastic selector, freelance writer, lover of vintage synthesizers and various aspects of electronic music, he began his journey more than ten years ago on the local label Krmelec, later releasing a 12-inch record on Berlin based Massimiliano Pagliara's label Funnuvojere and a cassette albums on US Origin Peoples and Sacred Phrases. In recent years, Martin mainly released on the Lithuanian Electric Shapes, and last year's mini-LP full of oppressive ambient was released in Japan, on Umé Records, which is run by Canadian producer Precipitation, real name Zefan Sramek. Martin Kuška signed his latest production on the border of melancholic techno and progressive house to the established European techno label Diffuse Reality. The group of enthusiasts and promoters behind Diffuse Reality is constantly expanding, whether it is organizing international Theorema festivals or opening their own record store near the central Plaza España square in Barcelona.

"I prepared Thrills and Maybe Ecstasy with quite clear symbolism, but as time goes by, it has become a much broader collage of thoughts about our lives, how we deal with them, what we pay attention to, what makes sense, and maybe even how deeply we are here for each other. I want the songs to take you to the dance floor, but also force you to think. With all the rawness and subtlety at the same time. That's how I like it," says the producer, adding that the long-thought-out cover by Zuzana Průchová and the meanings of the track titles themselves should also contribute to enhancing the symbolism of the new release, giving ample room for reflection.

The EP Thrills and Maybe Ecstasy, featuring tracks like No Other Sentiment Can Match or Then The Sunset Was Surreal, was created mainly on the Nord Lead 3, Studio Electronics SE-3X, Korg MS2000 and Modal 001 synths in combination with the DAW Reason 10 and its many Rack Extensions. Releases March 3, 2025.

As with previous Chromies releases, all money received will be going to a charity close to our hearts. This time around we will be donating to Kampania Przeciw Homofobii In Poland 🏳️‍🌈  KPH are a non-profit organisation helping our Polish LGBTQ+ brothers & sisters who are subject to some of the harshest discrimination in the world thanks to a openly homophobic government. According to KPH Every third LGBTQ+ person in Poland faces physical or psychological violence and young people do not feel safe in their schools or homes.

Governments in Poland started passing resolutions last year declaring themselves to be free of “LGBT ideology.” This toxic rhetoric has only served to deepen the external divisions between religious conservatives & the socially liberal poles. This is obviously unacceptable and needs to change immediately and that change is a possibility thanks to people like KPH. They use donations to organise social campaigns, educational materials, advocacy activities (including meetings with decision-makers and participation in the legislative process), to conduct media activities and court cases. These are long-term activities which need our support.
