« 10 years after its creation, Snowdrops returns to Gizeh Records with its 4th album, Singing Stones (volume 1), the first in a series of compositions celebrating slow time and long time, somewhere between post-classical, progressive chamber music and deep listening. In it, the collective founded by Christine Ott and Mathieu Gabry develop their alchemy of analogue and acoustic timbres in a style that is at times interior, intense, narrative or dreamy, and sometimes all at once.

Singing Stones is built around two long pieces, Crossing and Arctic Passage, which the duo have performed regularly on stage since 2016, notably at the Opéra Underground in Lyon, Silent Green in Berlin and this year at Autres Mesures Festival in Rennes. In Crossing, Snowdrops deploys its full progressive palette; 20 minutes of a veritable journey from ambient jazz to baroque electronics, to a polyrhythmic, repetitive and mystical coda, a contemporary blend of piano and ondes Martenot. By revealing even more textures, Arctic Passage can be seen as a nocturnal crossing among the ice, decomposing icebergs; an active listening to the natural vestiges of our world, and all that could disappear. »

Liz Helman and Darren McClure formed Longswarm in the summer of 2023, after randomly being brought together on another project. Residing in different parts of the globe, England and Japan respectively, their collaborations involve file exchanging and developing a shared soundpool of ideas that gradually build into finished pieces. Sunlight Was Peeled Away is the second album by the duo and consists of processed field recordings, ambient drones and smudged textures. 

Artists Biographies 

Liz Helman is a London based multi-disciplinary artist, working in time-based media. Her work, both visual and sonic, is a response to place and environment. By walking the streets, and experiencing different levels of sounds, she begins her process with field recordings, making immersive and mesmerising drone based compositions that explore layers of sound and texture. She very much likes working organically, following the thread of the sound to its ultimate destination, which she likes to think of as sonic alchemy. 

She has also released solo and collaborative work on a number of labels including Flaming Pines, Shimmering Moods, Midira Records and Kohlenstoff. 


Darren McClure is from Northern Ireland, now living in Matsumoto, Japan. His audio work focuses on texture, space and atmosphere. Sound sources are both analogue and digital, hardware and software, incorporating found sounds and field recordings to lend an organic, tactile quality to the material. His main intent is to create music to zone out to and zone into, a balance of widescreen drones and more minimal, abstract ambience. 

He has released solo and collaborative work on a number of labels, including Dragons Eye, Glistening Examples, Shimmering Moods and n5MD. His music has also been used in conjunction with video artwork and documentary shorts.
