The Amygdala is a central structure of the limbic system. It evaluates
sensory inputs for emotional significance and potential threats,
triggering neural pathways that generate emotional responses and
embed as lasting memories.
Simultaneously, it initiates physical responses such as heartbeat,
breathing, goosebumps, and the release of dopamine and serotonin.
Within musical experience, the amygdala allows us to sense the
emotional undertones of others intuitively, even before the mind can
interpret them. This process is known as affective empathy.
