SERA026: Satellite Era presents “Temple Of Symmetry EP” - the debut solo project of renowned musician and educator Brendan Rincon, best known as Undulae.

Approaching the fifth solar return of Satellite Era, we became immersed in a new realm, meticulously forged by an old and dear friend of ours. Searching for more answers, we called upon the creator of this strange setting - a mainstay of our collective who has grown alongside us since the very beginning.

From a subtle yet enticing label debut in year one, to his 2023 collaborative EP with Morasso (STRX003) that made waves on the dancefloor, it is no surprise that we have welcomed back Undulae to celebrate half a decade of Satellite Era. Originally discovered in Phoenix, a niche hotspot for some of our favorite hardware enthusiasts, he now resides in the heart of Mexico where he keeps busy fostering a vibrant online community of producers with promise. It was not until last year that this sound wizard began rising as a prolific music instructor, spreading free knowledge and providing paid resources alike. Going from several hundred to over 22 thousand followers on Instagram in a year makes him seem like an overnight sensation, but it took years of sedulous work sharpening his tools to eventually be able to share them to his fellow crafters. Somewhere down the road, he chipped away at what would eventually evolve into a conceptual project to showcase the skills he has honed throughout his journey.

Welcome to year six - we are thrilled to begin the newest chapter of our sonic story with “Temple Of Symmetry EP,” the long-awaited debut solo release of Undulae. In simplest terms, this is modern bass music made for the cinema - but there is no simplicity found here. Instead, each moment of this sequentially written project feels like a monumental scene in an imaginary yet familiar sci-fi film. To highlight its cohesiveness and become truly engulfed in its lore, the EP requires a continuous listen from start to finish. Thematically, it follows the narrative of an interstellar traveler, touching on quantum mechanics, black holes, Einstein-Rosen bridges, and everything in between. The lone voyager begins by leaving their home in “Escape Velocity,” a fantasy-like, quarter-time drum ‘n’ bass track that serves as a suitable prologue. “Relativity Engine” boosts the energy with a grueling bassline and clear nod to UK garage. The clever repetition in “Penrose Waltz” portrays a twisting black hole, dancing quietly in the cosmos. “Tessellation Skipping” marks a breakthrough in the story as the trajectory changes, taking shape as a fast-paced experimental piece. The title track is a perfect climax to the story as our hero reaches the enigmatic temple - a mainstage drum ‘n’ bass anthem of epic proportions. The credits begin to roll in “The Brightest Thing We Could Find” as we return to base and end the tale on a high note.

“Temple Of Symmetry EP” is a living and breathing organism that exists right in the center of leftfield bass music, movie scores, video game soundtracks, and orchestral pieces. Undulae’s glory lies within his ability to cater to all who lend him an ear while staying authentic - his debut offering is nothing short of that. Although it proudly sits as his best and most emotive work to date, there really is no ceiling for what he can and will accomplish. Five exhilarating years later, he has now established himself as a core member of the Satellite Era family, breaking barriers beyond our comprehension along the way - we are just grateful to be strapped in for the ride.
