G8 is being used as an “amplitude splitter” in order to selectively route part of the kick drum through an effect chain using G8’s reject output. First you hear the dry kick drum, then routing using different combinations of one-shot, cycle, flipped one-shot and flipped-cycle modes on G8. The reject channel’s effect chain is kept constant throughout the demo but many different effects are created by simply changing the gating parameters on G8.

G8 is used as an “amplitude splitter” on a piano track, so that only the loudest portions of the performance are routed through reverb. This creates a counterintuitive, almost eerie effect, where the distance seems to increase as the performer gets louder and vice versa. The hysteresis knob on G8 is used to prevent quick transitions or “chatter” above and below the gating threshold.

Here, G8 reduces the noise on a badly recorded saxophone sample. Notice the high noise floor on the first recording and how it is eliminated once G8 is added to the track (best heard on headphones).

A subtractor synth is being split into 3 frequency bands by Yoko. The resulting high, mid, and low band are each sent into different types of distortion (Scream 4).  Yoko's low and high cutoff frequency knobs are set to 130Hz and 360Hz respectively and a matrix pattern sequencer modulates the high cutoff value through CV control. 

"Growls" are created by using higher resonance on the high band's distortion module, so that every time the CV pulls down the high cutoff, formants are produced. Use it for instant bro-step or with practice, legitimate dub.

Yoko Subtractor Multiband Distortion

A simple Redrum beat is connected to Yoko with each of the 3 bands connected to a separate delay at different delay times.  Two LFOs are connected to Yoko's cutoff CV inputs.  Subtractor is connected to a second instance of Yoko again sending its 3 bands to separate delays.

We start with a simple two-bar beat, and then we simply run through a few G8 presets and combinators. You can hear G8 act as a transient shaper, an amplitude-dependent splitter for distortion and delay, a multiband gate (with Yoko), and more.

Drums are being sent through G8. The Reject Output is piped into a Scream 4 distortion. By manipulating G8's parameters we get all sorts of interesting effects as different transients are routed through the distortion unit.
