Disrupta is a name that’s stormed across the Drum & Bass scene in the past year picking up new fans with each new project and effortlessly sliding into new sub-genres. In 2020 Kieran (Disrupta) released his Deep Thoughts EP on Liquid V, a four track release that saw him explore a deeper, more musical side, in 2021 we now welcome him onto V Recordings for the next step in his journey.

The Changes EP is a four track project that spans across a selection of sub-genres whilst all being glued by the ‘Disrupta’ sound. The title track features Manchester vocalist DRS, a musician who needs little introduction and has worked with artists such as Children Of Zeus, dBridge and Marcus Intalex to name a few. ‘Wireless’ is a track sure to be on rotation when clubs back open, ’Tequila’ with J Select sees him delve even deeper into his tech side, and the project goes in full circle with ’Play It Cool’ falling into the same liquid vein as the title track.

We’re looking forward to seeing where Disrupta goes next as his musical pallet continues to develop, if this EP is anything to go by the experimentation is far from done.

“Compilation albums have a special place in my heart and to mark our birthday year I really wanted to release a project that was distinctive and exciting. An album that showcases the diversity of the label, the talents of the many artists we work with and ties together the threads and themes the producers explore.

The 22 exclusive tracks here are a perfect snapshot of the sound that Critical is wanting to be at the forefront of : Underground drum and bass in many different forms but always with that cutting edge.

The physical album is a strictly limited edition 6 piece vinyl box set with artwork designed by Steiner Grafik. The box itself is beautiful with silver ink printed on both the inside and outer shell, the records are pressed on 120gsm virgin vinyl and the 6th plate has a special etching to commemorate the birthday.

We have a deluxe version too which is limited to 100 copies. This includes the album box , a special aluminium print of the artwork, a signed poster, a multi page fanzine designed by Studio Yasseen Faik, stickers and a slipmat. (update: Deluxe box sets have now sold out)

Then one of Med School’s youngest ever signings with his compilation feature ‘No More’, drum & bass head turner Whiney has stepped up to the plate for his first solo release since officially joining the Hospital Records roster. Reputable for supplying heavy duty sonics, ‘Bubblers Part One’ is a supreme development of the 25-year old’s highly sought signature sound. Home to four fresh cuts marking the start of his trailblazing new three-part ‘Bubblers’ series, Whiney’s latest EP proves he’s got the technique and flair to be a lead player in the scene.

Jungle-infused gritty stepper ‘No Good’ gets things rolling with old-school soundscapes and a captivating R&B style vocal. A fierce ascending bassline accompanied by raw breaks and crisp percussion hits explode into play, setting the track up to be a future classic that continues to carry the foundations of drum & bass into the sounds of today.

Featuring the vocals of mic veteran MC GQ, ‘Guernsey Airport Bubbler’ is straight-talking and deadly. Written in the lounge of Guernsey Airport amidst his busy touring schedule pre-lockdown, this quirky heavy hitter comes close to being a textbook audible representation of a true bubbler.

Minimal sounding and darker in vibe, ‘Black Ice’ offers a copious amount of distorted swells, a throbbing sub line and snappy drums which keep the tune swinging throughout. Icey by name but extremely hot in nature - proceed with caution! ‘November’ rounds off the EP as it draws closer to Whiney’s trip-hop and future bass oriented inspirations. Thumping kick drums, high pitched vocal chops and dreamy synth work are projected into a glistening beacon showcasing the far reaching ability of his skill as a creator.

With an impressive collection of releases under his belt on the recently closed Med School imprint, including ‘Stop The Clock / Breadcrumbs (feat. BOP)’, his ‘Waystone’ LP and debut album ‘Talisman’, it’s now time for Whiney to officially join the Hospital Records roster with his first solo release on the label as he continues to pave his way to becoming one of the most respected artists within drum & bass.

Upgrade’s return to Serial Killaz is like a long lost friend coming back for one last bonkers session. Whatever this guy does simply oozes quality but not the glossy, hand buffed type you may be thinking, no way mate, not in a million years. Upgrade’s production is simply a combination of a raw, no fucks given attitude and years of doing whatever he wants and quite simply - it works. One of the many reasons he’s always welcome at our door.

‘Base’ has already had an exclusive via UKF and caused countless posts of upset regarding the spelling of everyone's favourite frequency. Simply put, if you like a double bass and a ton of heavy breakbeats to knock your block off - this one you. ‘Function’ harks back to Upgrade’s jungle roots with a hard slap of trademark Serial Killaz. A tune no doubt made with the label in mind.

The EP title track ‘First Request’ changes direction, flips the script and does a 360 headspin. Muddy bass, hints of classic beats and some epic percussion makes this a go to intro tune. Listen carefully and you might even get a taste of some Bristol influence here.

Slicing up the end, Upgrade comes with ‘Gangbeasts’ alongside Newcastle donny Scudd. Engage the rebels, stick your head down, embrace the haze and get down to this. Darkside business.
