ARA KOUFAX have worked together since bonding in high school, introducing their new project in 2014 with Brenda: a feature of Cutters Records' Oceans Apart compilation. Supported by the likes of Tim Sweeney and BBC Radio 1, Brenda paved way for the release of the pair’s eponymous EP: a three-track love letter to bubbling, textured electronic music from all corners of the globe.

Now, they return to Cutters Records to share ADULT CONCEPTS: a celebration of the year’s end and a snapshot of what can be expected of Ara Koufax in 2016.

The EP’s second track, Makers, is propelled by a buoyant, chugging rhythm section - nodding with love to Omar S, Motor City Drum Ensemble and the coming of warmer weather. Standing as a tonal counterpoint to Adult Concepts, the b-side fluctuates in intensity: embracing the quiet and chaotic in equal measure.

Neil Landstrumm and Tobias Schmidt are two men responsible for modern day electronic music. When the sound crawled out of the primordial speaker, this pair were there to welcome it. For more than twenty years the two have worked together as Sugar Experiment Station and arrive on Shipwrec for their first collaboration in eight years. This is a 12” born in burning furnaces of bass. Moulded in those low frequency fires, smelted in the thumping heat, are beats, beats hardened like steel before being shaped into lancing points. With these tools of rhythmic brimstone SES goes about destroying dancefloors before reinventing them. Chords are rolled in gravel, doused in distortion and rinsed in static. A style forged from the friction of pistons, the sweat of the assembly line, before being dipped in a searing liquor of circuitboards and molten microchips. Token's agent of hyper-detailed stereo excursions provides an understated epic for TOKEN80. Search Party is functional and crunchy, with Burchett's trademark stressful dischord almost unheard in the high end and a mid-crescendo element panned to dizzying perfection. Microdose is agitated: The naive introduction of simple, perfect fifths is gradually manipulated into unruly sophistication while the sparse percussion occupies ever more imaginary space. Boundary Interactions sustains an enduring diversion with a keen balance between captivating suspense and gratuitous payoff.

Scalameriya returns to Perc Trax after the success of 2016's 'Kepslok'. Since then he has continued to break new ground both as a solo artist and via his ongoing collaboration with Italian producer VSK, playing across Europe and releasing on a number of key labels whilst growing his own Genesa imprint. 

Now for his first release of 2018 he takes a giant leap forward both musically and technically with the three track statement of intent that is his 'Hellzone Megapunk EP'. Each track demonstrates new techniques and approaches not heard in his music before, from the 4/4 versus broken beat cage fight of the title track to Crucible's rolling polyrhythms and the otherworldly processed vocals of the closing track. 

As the first Perc Trax release of the year this EP sets out everything the label seeks to achieve, a combination of sonic innovation that manages to keep attention fully focussed on the dance floor at all times.

Giant Swan are debuting on Mannequin Records through the Death of the Machines serie, the dancefloor/experimental oriented side of the label, dedicated to new artists.

Robin Stewart & Harry Wright team up to create an acerbic marriage of energised, aggressive dance music, quaking bass and hypnotic electronic noise. Across a table of machines and pedals, incorporating abused guitar and liberal vocal manipulation, Giant Swan create a cross-breed of hypnotic bass, industrial percussion and disorientating energy delivered with telepathic intricacy.
