Music producer and DJ @sublimesublime welcomes us into the Growing pains mix series with an ambient mix titled “lovers rock”. The intentionally slow mix takes you through a variety of sounds and emotions and is supposed to bring you to the truth. 

AKAsublime is a Music Producer, DJ and the founder of Unity Art Collective. Outside of music and organizing community events via unity. AKAsublime dabbles in painting, photography and fashion. AKAsublime grew up in BC but is currently based on Montreal. ♥️⭐️💗

@rip_adam "This mix is a full dedication to east coast club culture, featuring old and new school tracks from Baltimore, Jersey, Philly, New York and more. Moving from 130 bpm to 180 bpm, this mix embodies the history and dynamism of club culture, making you leave all your emotions on the dance floor (in my case, my bedroom being the dancefloor). The earlier end features a lot of Baltimore and Jersey club, bringing you classic edits of staple sounds in Black culture. The first few tracks pay homage to Baltimore and Jersey club's house roots, bringing you edits of classic house tracks. Moving on, the next few tracks are an homage to club culture's ability to sample anything. This is specifically important to me because it allows documentation of Black pop culture through music. Specifically, the Dora edit moving into the Maury edit is a tribute to the time I spent at home, unsupervised, watching daytime television, which I think a lot of Black youth can relate to. In the middle, you will find a section dedicated to club queens, giving space to all the femme voices and sounds within this very cis-male dominated scene (featuring a dedication to K-swifts influence). The latter half of the mix features a lot of fast Jersey club and Philly club, and is a tribute to the more aggressive side of club culture. Philly club's ability to reference hardstyle, trap, and EDM should have you footworking for the rest of the mix.

Throughout the mix, I also chopped in some vocal clips from TT the Artist's musical documentary - "Dark City Beneath the Beat", as well as other vocal clips found on the internet. I wanted to give space to the voices that are pushing the club sound forward and have direct accounts of how they view and see their own culture."

Growing Pains Mix series# 5 - LaFHomme and Meiiyun   

LaFHomme is a montreal-based DJ and sound Artist that uses their craft as a spiritual practice. Being a community-oriented individual, they value creating an intercultural sonic experience to open people’s minds and hearts. They are inspired by many creative individuals in the diasporic rave scene such as Crystallmess & Estoc, and work to contribute to the QTBIPOC narrative.

Meiiyun is a multidisciplinary Artist who draws on experiences of dance performance and visual art to inspire his music selections. He is interested in connecting the dots of music and mind/body awareness to create a unique experience for listeners and introduce music that’s often missing in club settings.

Unity Arts Collective is a space/platform made by n for BIPOC people/ BIPOC queer and trans people within “Canada”. Unity does Art shows, Parties, Markets and community hangs. We do A queer party in mtl called Growing pains and are connecting to an Art project called Floating thoughts which is a Radio show. Floating thoughts also does sound and music shows and for the last year has been curating an Art show Series called Where do we go from here? that consists of 10-15 BIPOC Q/T Artists all presenting work made with Sound, fabric, Paint, Acting, Writing, video/ photo and many other things. 

Unity Radio is a platform made to share Artists DJ mixes and Songs in an effort to support and Prioritize underground BIPOC/ queer and trans people.
