King Richard III: Who was he?

The Richard III project was a collaboration between the University of Leicester, the Richard III Society and Leicester City Council. Here the University was able to lend its expertise in archaeology, genetics, history, genealogy and forensics. Funded and overseen almost entirely by the University, the excavation and identification of the remains was one of the most ambitious archaeological projects ever carried out. King Richard III: How the project got started

The excavations of the Grey Friars site in the Richard III project would require a team of archaeological experts, particularly with expertise of excavating a complex urban site with the potential for burials and use of ancient DNA analysis.
