The virgin idealist bedroom producer is buried, now make way for the 4.0 romantic sound designer! After some appearances on various artists, xl.iks unearths his long-time working debut EP and is ready to win the he@rts all around the world with a stunning piece of corrosive-but-sentimental IDM. Entitled "eoseubnida", this record is the result of all the contradictory passions the Grenoble based producer is crossed by. His bad boy tastes for dark, harsh and noisy stuff coexist in harmony with his emo soul interested in flowers, love and birds. In 5 tracks xl.iks expresses this inner duality : tortured beats are enlightened by mellow synths, outdated video games references are bundled up in HD sound design and the whole piece describes the thin line between reality and virtual world. xl.iks definitely belongs to our hypermodern era except the fact that, facing our uncertain future, he prefers to unsheathe the final fantasy sword of poetry rather than the cyberpunk cynism.

On February 24, 2022, Russian troops invaded Ukraine, masking the operation as a "peacekeeping mission”. On August 21, 1968, our country was also invaded by the Soviets and Warsaw Pact armies. The occupation lasted over four more decades.

Ruhail Qaisar’s Fatima is a requiem for a dead future. The debut album release by the self-taught artist and producer screams with the trauma and decay of life in his hometown of Leh—a high-altitude plateau region in the contested Ladakh area, extending from the Himalayan to the Kunlun Ranges. Qaisar absorbs this external condition of perpetual conflict between nation states into his internal life and resulting compositions, crossing sound art, noise music and experimental filmmaking. Hauntological drones, power electronics and convulsive post-industrial dissonance create an unnerving sense of fear, anger, and alienation. A broken transistor with a knob tuned to the abyss is bombarded with the cries and bitter laughter of a city’s inhabitants tyrannized, not only by military occupation but the soft-power subjugation of the tourism industry.
 
Following 2016’s Ltalam EP—released under Qaisar’s now-defunct Sister moniker—Fatima serves to transmit memories carried through the events, local mythos and personal recollections of growing up between the remote agrarian villages of Ladakh and the urban center of its joint capital—Leh. The album was mixed between that area, and a DIY home studio in New Delhi, where the artist amalgamates his collected found sounds and field recordings into unrecognizable hybrids. Discordant pads and atmospherics on the dark ambient of “Daily Hunger” is disrupted by a crashing, pounding reverb, while contributor Elvin Brandhi shrieks towards its horrifying conclusion in the squelching, scratching sound of something soft being chewed.
 
An anti-lingual conjuring of metaphysical totems in music, Fatima is a seething chronicle of experience through the dynamics of riots, violence, colonization, unemployment, PTSD, and self-abuse. The cycling tumult of “Namgang” hosts a menacing whisper that echoes the hissing fury of something like Einstürzende Neubauten and Lydia Lunch’s “Thirsty Animal,” while a trouncing distorted bass line on “Fatima’s Poplar” circles a voice that barks, "The Western Civilization Show has been discontinued."

A grave and sprawling epic, Mt. Fuyu’s A Mirror to Weave swells with implication. Written, recorded, and produced from the heart of a person who’s lived through life’s struggles much too young, the album is a ferment of ideas and experiences that together capture the sheer strangeness, beauty, and terror of existence. Born in China and immigrating to the United States with his parents in infancy, the Kansas City-based artist—otherwise known as Fu Liu—moved from the coastal province of Shandong to America’s Midwest in the early 2000s. The dot-com crash to follow led to living precariously with his father in Canada, then a short stint in foster care, before settling into a strict regimen of academic and musical pursuits on the family’s return to the US.

This classical jazz education and scholarly background comes through in A Mirror to Weave, where an endless inventory of influences—crossing Coil, The Caretaker, Burial; Mark Fisher, Hito Steyerl, Carl Jung, and more—is steeped in a sublime brew of drone, post-industrial and ambient; hauntology, dub and bass. Rife with the trauma of the past, and the expansive landscapes of the present, opener “Temple” billows with decayed, distended, and eerily pitched vocals, as an arrhythmic pulse grows then crashes in a surge of noise and distortion. The disturbance rumbles through other tracks too, as the subaqueous current of “Swamp Nymphs” roils and fizzes around a crumble of pads and sine waves, while resampled and effects-laden drums charge head-first into the spooky atmospherics of “Ovre” with an erratic urgency.

Although often muted, muffled or restrained, the voice and its whispered words play a central role in A Mirror to Weave. It’s in the existential drift of “Shells”, as Fu Liu’s sweetly sung words (“seen it all/ a black hole”) ripple over a melancholy piano solo; environmental field recordings fluttering delicately just beneath the surface. The audio is taken from the parks, streets, bars, as well as online spaces Fu Liu inhabits, giving the record its heavy sense of grief and alienation. Wandering through the emotional state of pandemic-era estrangement, while also mourning the passing of friends, A Mirror to Weave is a requiem for the worst that’s already been, and an exaltation of the best that’s yet to come.

J. G. Biberkopf’s work spans club, theatre and digital radio contexts. The tracks here float between cyberambience and slamming rhythmic constructions; distant trails of web-filtered grime, and beatless studies of net phenomenology. His collage compositions are intended as a field trip into the represenations of nature that emerge from the digital-social media scape. He says of the project’s inception, that he was intrigued by an oddly “naive idea of nature that seemed strikingly prevalent in my social environment.. I was curious to know how these simulations of Nature work in digital media, how do we do experience these simulated materials”. J.G. Biberkopf appears as part of an newly emergent wave of intensely thoughtful, rhythmically physical, net-aware young artists, such as v1984 and Sentinl. Exploring similar themes to Biberkopf within his practice is Australian visual artist Joe Hamilton, who also employs technology and found material in order to create complex and intricate environments - both offer an experience which is oddly romantic; stripped of it’s tangibility, yet provided with a synthetic vitality. Hamilton’s multimedia project, ‘Hyper Geography’ (2011), is cited by Biberkopf as a key influence in the development of ‘Ecologies’. These work analogously in investigating evolving relationships with our immediate, often juxtaposed, environments and the concept of nature within an age of an increasing, network based interdependence. Here, Hamilton provides visual reference to ‘Ecologies’ with a new work for the record sleeve, in addition to a limited print edition, to be available exclusively through Knives.

The EP is backed with a @loftminduk remix.  On her "Hibernation Loop" of 'Nest', LOFT counteracts the bass-loaded low-end of the original with outer textures that spiral into a higher realm.

Although the initial seeds had already been planted, the largest part of these two tracks was produced by Francesco Birsa Alessandri (Sense Fracture) in Milan, Italy, during the strictest part of Covid-19 lockdown. While all around people were trying to make the best of their home confinement, all the Haunter co-founder could channel in this work was a sense of rage and frustration. The global pandemic was revealing once more how the current political structures do not exist to provide for the common good. World leaders exploited the state of emergency to provide for their own authoritarian agenda, working in conjunction with multinational Capital to reinforce the hegemonic status of the ruling class. It was immediately apparent that not even the possibility of death on mass scale was enough to re-think the force and economic relations that govern Earth. The possibility to think and work as a community constantly mauled by the paranoid, individualistic narrative of power, reinforcing the state of anxiety that permeates the world.

The furious yells in “What We Could Have Done” were sampled from Italian hardcore punk band Wretched’s 1984 classic “Spero Venga La Guerra”, its intro famously stating “I hope war comes, only then you’ll understand you could have done something”. War hasn’t come to the global north, but pestilence has, have now grasped what we could have done? How we could overthrow the present state of things and organize towards the future?

This single also comes out a few days after the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer raised once more the evidence of systemic racism and the issue of white supremacy not only in the USA but in all western countries, giving birth to a mass uprise that makes the need and hunger for radical change impossible to ignore.
“RAN” a Japanese word for “riot” and “rebellion” is an invite to take action in burning down the castle, to join together and do all we can.

These tracks is dedicated to all individuals and organizations that have engaged in active popular solidarity and aid.
All the profits made by the sales of the single will be donated in an even split between the Brigate Volontarie Per L’Emergenza (Italy) and the National Bailout Fund (USA).
